SUNDAY LEAGUE CANCELLED
Sunday League XC organisers have released the following:-
“Sunday XC League Royston - Weather Conditions
Good morning everyone,
I imagine that many of you will have see that poor weather is forecast for Sunday with rain and winds exceeding 50mph. Most of you will know the venue and will know how very exposed the Heath is.
Clearly the safely of all concerned with the race is of the utmost importance. Crucially important is the welfare of the marshals as they will be out on the course for the best part of 2 hours. They need to get to their posts, wait for the final runner to pass them (the back-markers are expected to take 85-90 minutes to finish the race) and then dismantle the course. I cannot possibly have the marshals on duty for that length of time in the conditions that are forecast.
I'm liaising with our colleagues at Royston Runners to consider what's the best thing to do. Rather than cancelling the race, we're looking at options to reduce the distance and hence the time that everyone will be out, and seeing if it's feasible to avoid running through the wooded section.
I'll keep you updated with further information as soon as I have it.
Thank you for your understanding,
Malcolm”
