10 take on the Orion 15!
07.04.19 A bit of a fallow week this week, with Spring marathoners due a non-racing weekend, but there was still the typical mix of Heathsiders out on the roads, track and trails.
On Friday 29th March, four Heathsiders took advantage of the unseasonably hot weather to enjoy the monthly Last Friday of the Month 5k race over by the Serpentine in Hyde Park. Rob Shulman was first home in 18:52, while Felipe Cardoso secured a PB as he finished in 21:06, just 10 seconds ahead of Jessica Vinluan. Alun Nash completed the quartet (24:21).
The following day it was over to Epping Forest for the annual Orion 15 mile race put on by Orion Harriers. There was a perfect 10 for Heathside out of 357 runners in total, led home by Pete Northall (22nd) in a hugely impressive time of 1:44.27. Dan Johns also broke into the top 50, finishing in 1:52.29, with Liam Hazelton and Lenny Martin not far behind. Sarah Swinhoe was the 6th woman to finish on the day and won the prize for first female Vet, coming home just outside 2 hours in 2:03.32. Christopher Vincent, Ian Shurmer, Stuart Robson, Alice Hosking and Anna Gibson also completed the famous course to round off the cross country season in style!
On the same Saturday, as one season came to an end, the start of the track season continued as a number of Heathsiders also made their way East and took part in an open meeting at Woodford. Over a range of events from 100m up to 3000m, notable performances include a double PB for Lucas Maher (u15) as he first snuck underneath the minute mark over 400m (59:16) then later won his 800m heat in 2:15.96. Meanwhile in another 400m heat, there were further PBs for Amar Aiyar-Majeed (u23, 53:82) and Ruairi McGonagle (u17, 54:07). Congratulations lads!
