Freezing Fred Hughes and Red Hot Indoor Action

Lets start the report in a sub-zero St Albans on Saturday morning.

Fred Hughes 10 Mile Race, St Albans, 18.1.20

Andrew Hudson reports,"14 Heathsiders headed north to St Albans for the Fred Hughes 10 miles on Sunday 19th.  It was crisp and cold, but good for running apart from some frosty sections, especially on the first lap.  Sara Black won her category (Women 45) and was the 8th woman overall in I hour 5mins 50.  Natan Doran was the first Heathsider home, followed by Dominic Jones.  A bit lower down the field, Sif Sumarlidadottir and Filipe Cardoso ran together and pushed each other on for much of the way, with Sif 4th in the W45 category.  Caroline White was second in the W55 category.  Next stop on the way to the Rob Jackson Trophy: the Watford Half on 2 February."

Gloucester Marathon, Gloucester 19.1.20

Two Heathsiders had a successful day out at the Gloucester marathon, on a cold, bright Sunday morning. There were some hills and some icy areas but otherwise the course was fine and traffic free. Our two participants finished within 43 seconds of each other but each had very different intentions going into the race. Michael Kennedy has set himself the target of one marathon a month for a year. After the disappointment of the cancellation of the Sheffield marathon in January due to flooding, he plan was back on track with a comfortable 8th place finish in 2.54..01. Rob Shulman needed a qualification time for Comrades marathon in South Africa in June. A prized A pen entry is awarded for a sub-3, so that was the target. He finished in 9th (2nd V50) position in 2.54..43, faster than he had planned but was feeling good on the day so went with it. Both Michael and Rob need to recover quickly as both have trail marathons/ultras in a fortnight.
