Met League consolidation at Uxbridge..

Met League Fixture 3 – Uxbridge

Met League Senior Report

The senior women were missing almost a handful of A-team scorers from previous fixtures but still managed to come second on the day, which is really impressive -- and a relief. We're still top of the league, above Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets and Highgate.

Hats off to Rebecca Piggott for more superb cross-country racing, leading to a fifth place finish. Rosa was next in, with Eva Divetain five seconds behind to make it three Heathsiders in the top 20. It was good to have Annabel Litchfield back after the Berlin marathon kept her away from the mud for a bit; next in after Annabel was a steadily improving Emily Reichert, with she and Laura Hunt, who was next over the line for Heathside, making their A-team debut.

Congratulations to Jackie for winning the V55 race and to Satu for finishing second V45. A shout-out also to Sam Taylor, who was racing her first Met League after a good chuck of time off -- nice to have you back.

Our men secured a third place in Uxbridge to continue their impressive performance so far this season. The A-team is sitting third in Division one, behind Highgate and Victoria Park, although Woodford are only 54 points behind in fourth. The results point to a close race between Tom Aldred and Charles Hardy, who were separated by two seconds in the end for 21st and 22nd, respectively; Tom was second V40. Roger Maidment was next in for Heathside (43rd and 1st V45), followed by Ewan Gault (54th), Franceso Melloni (80), Simon Dunderdale (88), Peter Gould (89), Matthew Field (106), Alex Sweet (117), Matthew Wheat (124), Thom Hart (125), and Jack Hardy (153). Those were are 12 to score in Division One.

In the Howard Wilson Trophy competition, Heathside is in a three-way tie for the senior title, and in third for the juniors. This is a really interesting competition, as it's for the strongest club overall in those two categories -- in the senior competition it counts men and women performances together, and in the juniors it covers both sexes from U13 up to U17.

Next up in the Met League: Ally Pally, 11 January! But don't forget that before that you have a chance to run in the Sunday League in Fairland Valley Park on 22 December, and in the Middlesex Champs on 4th January (register via the portal by Christmas).

Met League Junior Report

The remoteness of Uxbridge, County commitments and pre-christmas events unfortunately impacted on the number of Juniors taking part with the club unable to put put full teams of 4 in any of the U11 or U13 races. However the 21 who did performed admirably despite the heavy ground and competitive fields recording 2nd places for Kiara Corkin and 3rd places for Ben Redland and Mimi Blake with Michael Smith the 3rd U15 in the Junior Mens race.

The U11’s saw Ben Redland, despite an ongoing leg injury, finish 3rd just caught on the line by an ESM runner. He now ties for first place overall with the Arthur Phillips of SBH making the two remaining races next year very exciting. Eden Brown and Rory Wills finished 17th and 29th respectively and as both are U10 showing great potential for next year. The girls race finished in the same order as the first two this season with Kiara Corkin just trailing Posie Shaw of SBH who has won all three met races this year. Elkie Baker matched her best Met League position finishing 13th.

The U13 boys were depleted with a number running for Middlesex, however Ivor Joslin produced a great run to finish 11th and Eric Beale and Kamran Bakhshi 17th and 20th again both showing promise for next year. Hattie Munday finishing 4th produced her best Met League finish with Amara Odeogberin also running well to finish 24th.

The Junior men were the first age group to negotiate the river crossing Oliver O’Connor was the first home in 8th place with Ruairi McGonagle 13th. The remainder of this young team were all U15’s with Michael Smith in 20th the 3rd U15 home. Arthur Smith in 48th and Stan Hasson and Avery Dietrich who came in together in 54th place completed the team. Mimi Blake is having a strong season and again finished in the top 3, Rose Garrett in 14th and Mia Manttan 21st followed by Maia Hampton Phillips 22nd and the 9th U15. Fabienne Weston completed the team.

So completes the last Junior Cross Country of 2019. However ith entry deadlines approaching any Juniors wanting to take part in the Middlesex and Southern Championships should let their Coaches or Ruth Miller know asap. The Met League Race at Ally Pally is also now confirmed as also acting as the U11 and U13 Club Cross Country Championship Race.

SEAA Masters and Inter-County Meeting

This weekend saw a number of unfortunate clashes with the Met League. Not more so than the masters and Inter-County meeting at Oxford. The club had 5 Juniors representing Middlesex with the County electing not to enter any female teams. Benjy Bediako was injured and Tynan Parker was ill on the day although he finished the U13B race. Spike Blake and Jack Davis Black ran in the U15 Boys race finishing in 51st and 60th places. In the U17 Mens race Thomas Archer (6th) and Jake Evans (24th) helped Middlesex to 4th place in the team event.

In the Masters Sarah Swinhoe finished 9th overall and the 5th VW45. Carl Heap was our only male competitor. However the plaudits go to Ruth Miller who finished 2nd VW60 and took home some new silverware.

ESAA English Schools Cross Country Cup

Anne Pritchard was part of the Dame Alice Owens team which finished 4th in the Inter Girls age group of the National Schools Cross Country Cup Final in Derbyshire. Schools had battled through three rounds of competition to get there with Anna finishing a creditable 68th place.

Milton Keynes Half Marathon

Seyfu took a break from recording a fastest Park run to take part in the Milton Keynes Winter Half Marathon recording a time of 66.05 to win by over 4 minutes and set a new U20 Half Marathon Club Record. Seyfu covered the first 3 miles in 14:32 minutes and had an average pace over the whole race of a speedy 3:08 minutes per km.

Lanzarote Marathon

A number of Heathsiders opted for the sunshine of the Canary Islands to take part in the Lanzarote Half and Full Marathon races. In the half Marathon Louisa Pointon was the 12th Female and 96th overall with a time of 1:35.01. Catherine Doherty finished in 241st with a time of 1:45.22. In the marathon Elinor East finished 44th and the 4th female with a time of 3:19.21.

Elsewhere in Cambodia Liam Hazelton recorded a PB of 1:25.38 in the Angkor Wat Half Marathon.

Middlesex University Open

The Middlesex University Open last Wednesday saw Deji Agbede break his club record for the indoor 400m by almost 2 sec. Seyfu Jamaal won the 3,000m recording the 10th fastest time by and U20m this year.

Park Run
