Seyfu smashes it at the 5k Hasty Hare, Rob wins Windsor ultra and Gold for Tony

14.08.19 Seyfu breezed in to first place at the  Hasty Hare 5K at Battersea last Monday 5th August, making it look effortless – in a time of 15.04, Rob Shulman was first in in the Windsor towpath 48 mile ultra –looking very fresh at the finish! And Tony Killilea achieved his first gold medal in the Steeplechase at the British Masters in Birmingham. Elsewhere there were some good results at the Watford Graded open but otherwise pretty quiet this mid August weekend.

Sri Chinmoy 5K Hasty Hare, Battersea Park 5th August
The latest race in the Rob Jackson trophy championship was held last Monday in Battersea Park, with a very good Heathside turnout and they came home with a clutch of fruity prizes - first place for Seyfu in 15.04, Rebecca Piggott was 3rd female in 18.00, Emilia 2nd VW50, Caroline 1st VW60, and Sue Eedle 2nd VW60.

Windsor Ultra 48 Miles, Thames path, 10th August
Rob Shulman won the Windsor ultra 48 mile race along the Thames path. Sounds as if it was a walk in the park from his report back. He wrote that the he won this event “Running on a windy day along a beautiful stretch of the Thames between Henley and Teddington Lock. This was a build up race to a planned 100m race in October and an opportunity to test logistics and race planning, which all went swimmingly well. The official results are not out yet but the watch time was 7.28.” Huge congrats Rob and best of luck on the 100 miler in October.

BBC 10K Regents Park, 30th July
Some late results in - Lawrence Russell and Caroline took part in this very low key event in Regents Park, with a 182 participants. Lawrence came in 11th in 39.31 and Caroline 58th in 47.35

Pride 10K, Victoria Park, 10th August

Jonathan Shipley sent in results from the Pride 10K in Regents Park - where a group of 7 Heathsiders were led home by Michael Cockings and reported that Heathside came in second place club, in a field of 1001!

British Masters Championships Birmingham, 10-11 Aug 19

Tony Killilea was delighted to have achieved his first gold medal in the M55 steeplechase at the British Masters Championships in Birmingham in 12.14.37. He reported: “Having finished fifth and second in my previous steeplechase races at the British Masters track and field championships, I really wanted a win. And, having reached a new age group this year, I saw this as my chance. The steeplechase is my favourite event and I was pleased to do it again after a three year gap due to a groin injury (there must be some people out there who I haven’t told about my injury more than a dozen times?). The injury meant I still couldn’t hurdle but reckoned I wouldn’t lose much time by putting a foot on the barriers.
 
The bad thing about my event was that it was at 9:30am on Sunday. This may count as midday for a distance runner but it’s more like the middle of the night for a track and field athlete. It was too early to get a train from London on the day which meant bearing the expense of a hotel room.
 
I was disappointed to see that only three competitors were entered in my age group, but saw a real threat in Simon from Southend, whose times over middle-distance events this year were better than mine. Winning was more important than a running a good time and I started conservatively, just doing enough to stay ahead of Simon. I was also well aware that it’s easy to fade badly in the steeplechase. I knew from his splashing at the water jump that I was gaining a second or so a lap on Simon who was probably tired from racing the previous day, and duly won the race, albeit in a poor time."

Sion Lewis also ran at the Masters  and wrote: “I came fourth in the m35 1500m in 4:28 inpretty bad conditions. The weather had improved by Sunday but it was still quite windy and I was very pleased with 5th place in the m35 5000m in a pb equalling time of 16:11.”

Park runs from Saturday can be found here and there were first places for Tom Aldred at Finsbury Park, Julia Bijl at Hackney marshes, Olivia Desborough at Highbury Fields, Chiara Borg at Oakhill, Jackie Wastell at Pegwell Bay, and Louisa Pointon at Queen Elizabeth.
