Virtual Racing takes a bow
The Lockdown continues to ravage the athletics season with our home SAL meeting in June now also cancelled. However over Easter an innovative “virtual” race was launched in conjunction with Open Track to create a 5 km relay competition open to clubs from across Britain. Competitors had 4 days to upload their Strava recorded run onto the results website. A number of competitions were then calculated with 12 Stage Relays (Men and Women), 6 stage relay (Women) and Age Adjusted races. There were an impressive total of 5,345 runners taking part and almost £10,000 raised for charity. The fastest time was recorded by Grant Sheldon a British and Scottish Triathlon champion with a time of 13:38.
The Men’s race was won by Leeds AC in a combined time of 2:57.08 with the Heathside Men’s team 77th with a time of 3:35.45. The Women’s team race was won by Herne Hill Harriers in 3:37.09, with 4:18.51 London Heathside were 15th. Outstanding individual placings were recorded by Caroline White 4th VW60 and Sara Black 6th VW45.
