Pat Vaughan (1942-2020)
Club Chairman Jerry Odlin has released the following statement about another former member of North London AC who sadly passed away recently.
“We have recently received sad news of Pat Vaughan, who died on the 18th December at the age of 78. Pat was a life member of the club and held numerous committee posts with North London AC, one of the two clubs that formed London Heathside, including being the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer.
I appreciate that many of our current members will not have heard of Pat, but for North London AC members of my age he was an ever-present figure in the 1970s-80s. By our late teens, as our teenage members do now, we fancied ourselves in training against many of the senior members of the club, but on road runs Pat could easily remind us that we had some way to go to be able to match his pace. In races he would frequently record low 5-minutes per mile performances over distances ranging from 5km to10 miles.
Perhaps more importantly, Pat was an articulate gentleman. He loved a few pints of Guinness after training and despite us (then) youngsters making ruthless fun of his 'posh' accent, he remained a great advocate of our future success in and out of the sport.”
The clubs thoughts are with his family and friends.
