1-2-3 for Heathside at Regent’s Park 10K and Trophies at the Chingford League
A varied bumper edition this week, comprising the second round of the Club Road race Championships, several half marathons including a big club turnout at Cambridge, the Chingford League finale at Wanstead, plus Indoor Track and Field action at the British Masters.
Distinguished performances were recorded across the board, with a win in the 10K for Tom Aldred, multiple medals at the British Masters Indoors, and Rory Willis and Pete Crockford securing the Junior and Senior Trophies ( pictured ) respectively for top places in their age groups at the Chingford League over the season
Mornington Chasers Regents Park 10K , Regents Park, 6.3.22
On a bright, sunny morning but with a brisk wind, a small but committed group of Heathsiders took part in the Regents Park 10K, a race organised by Mornington Chasers RC, and which forms part of our Road Race Championships series for the Rob Jackson trophy
Tom Aldred, Christopher Gracie, & Andy Barnes established themselves as the top 3 in the race from the first kilometre. Tom was always in the lead and pulled away in the second half to record a clear victory by over a minute, while Chris maintained his narrow margin over Andy all the way to the end. Next Heathsider in was Damian Lane in 9th place, claiming the V50 honours, followed by Doug Rendle in 17th, who finished just outside the 40 minute barrier.
Emilia Vynnycky led our women home, also placing 1st in the Women’s V50 category ( 11th Female overall) with Sue Eedle next and 1st in the V60 category. Rebecca and Marianne were also satisfied with their runs

Run Through Kempton Park 10k & Half Marathon, 5 Mar
Gavin Evans sends this report on the Kempton Park event ;
“ Three Heathsiders trekked to a famous horseracing course on a cold and very windy Saturday to take part in the Run through Kempton Park 10k and half marathon, and all came home as category winners.
There were no Heathsiders in the 5k event and Jamie Morris was our sole 10 representative, coming fourth overall, and first in the V45 category, in 36:28 – just 11 seconds off his PB after a 75-mile training week and running on a flat course but with gusty winds and several soft, off-road bits, although the rain held off. It all looks good for his Boston Marathon ambitions.
Gavin Evans came 11th overall and was the first V60 in the half marathon in a time of 1:24:25 and Mark Jefford, in 59th place in 1:52:08, was the first V55 “

Chingford League XC Relays 5 Mar
The finale to the Chingford League season took place with XC relays at Wanstead Flats. Team manager Pete Crockford reports :
“We just managed to get a mens team out, thanks to Joe standing in at the last minute for an injured Ryan McCarthy. Possibly a tad longer than the advertised “3km”, and familiar turf for Andy and Joe, though muddier than the parkrun course. Joe maybe paid a bit for not bringing his spikes out. A cold wind, but as always a real buzzing community feel to the event. Orion’s men won in 44:25, and we were 11th mens A team, and 16th team overall (of 81 completed).

It was lovely to have our own Ivor Wiggett, President of the Chingford League, doing the presentations for the season afterwards. Rory Willis was overall U11B winner, bookended by my winning the MV60 … 53 years between us, in the 67th season for the League. Our club, and the Chingford League, both enjoying good health! “
