All The World's a Stage...
Sebastian Harrison competed in a Sprint Tri and reports: "I did the East Leake Triathlon on Sunday just past. It was a sprint triathlon so 400m swim (pool), 22km cycle and 5km run. I got PBs in both the swim (6:28) and the run (17:58), which I am very pleased with. All in all, a very friendly and pleasant day, very well organised, and in very nice conditions. I even got to start at 11:30am - I might put some more wildly optimistic swim times down in future to get a nice little sleep in! In the end I came 13th out of 359 - and 3rd in my age category (30-34), which yielded my first mini trophy. Definitely getting better - and I am going to say it is down to the Heathside track sessions! Here is a link to the results: http://www.stuweb.co.uk/race/1mn/"
Emilia Vinnicky and nine other Heathsiders had an enjoyable Saturday morning running in the Orion 15, the classic 15 mile cross-country race through Epping forest. She reports: "Organised by the super-friendly Orion harriers, the route is idyllic, going through meadows and forest and has numerous seriously tough hills, making Parliament hill seem like a molehill. It’s ideal for developing observation skills, as runners need to look for piles of sawdust marking out the route, to reduce the chance of getting lost. Fortunately, the course was not as muddy as it could have been. Esa Valtanen, Jonathan Litchfield and David Fallon were the 1st 3 men in, making up the 6th-placed Mens team. Esa, Jonathan and Chip Hamer also made up the 5th placed Mens Vets team. On the Women’s side and just a week after setting a half marathon PB, Kimberli Butler finished in 2:34:21, whilst I aimed to use it as a gentle marathon-preparation run, but still finished exhausted! At the end of the race, runners were greeted with Bucks Fizz, tea, cakes and bacon rolls, as well as rumours that most had only run 14.5 miles, having missed the sawdust trail early in the course. Any disappointment quickly disappeared with the knowledge that there’s always the option of coming back to this great race next year..."
