2024 Annual Review - (Part 2)
Our annual review picks up in July with the Senior Track and Field Team flying high in the Southern Athletics League.
July
Ann Woulfe and Matthew Cartledge won the Annual Club Handicap in Highgate Woods.
The Clubs Vet team secured 3rd place at the last meeting in Harrow
The last MYAL at Parliament Hill saw the club again finish 2nd with 10 event wins to finish 2nd overall behind Shaftesbury Barnet.
Helena Stone competed for the first time internationally in Germany, while in Manchester Tom Archer returning from long term injury recorded a time of 4:04.26 at the 1500m at the BMC Grand Prix in Manchester.
The ESAA Championships were again held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. 8 Heathsiders were there representing either London or Middlesex. In the IG Discus Elkie Baker won silver with a new PB of 38.57m. Trey Corlis, Montana Dennis and Malakai won relay medals.
Seyfu won the Saucony London 10km in 29 mins 41s. Elsewhere James Hurrell was first Heathsider home in the Hasty Hare and Kangaroo Hop 5km races
In the 3rd SAL match in Cambridge the team finished 3rd behind the hosts and league leaders Havering. The team had 7 event wins with new records in the SW 4x100m and Asia Emanuel in the U17W 100m. This set up a promotion decider at the last match.
Leon Seale made the 200m final in the EA Championships with Helena Stone competing in the Ambulent 100m and Trey Corlis U20M 100mH.
Elkie Baker won a Silver Medal in the Discus at the SIAB International Championships in Camarthen.
George Saint (U20M), Sion Lewis (V45) and Christopher Gracie (V40) set new club records at the Golden Stag Mile.
At the England Athletics Age Group Championships in Birmingham. Sam Brown made the U17m 400m final, with Montana Dennis making the 100mH final. Elkie Baker won a bronze medal in the U17W Discus.
Adrian Day, Israel Nworgu and Tony Killilea all won medals at the British Masters Championships.
August
Mia Hinson and Tahan Dayes represented Middlesex at the U13 Inter-Counties match.
Jonathan Hilling was 9th at the Sir Chimnoy Green 10km.
Elkie Baker continued her medal winning run taking the Southern U17W Discus title in Weybridge. Malakai David McKenzie Callum won a bronze in the U17M 100mH.
Asia Emanuel improved her U17W 100m record to 12.59s at Lee Valley.
The last SAL saw the Club secure promotion to the Southern Athletics League 1st Division for the first time. The Club smashed the meeting with 15 event wins including 9 with both A and B strings.
The Senior Mens 4x100m relay team headed to Birmingham for the EA National Relay Championships winning the Bronze Medal.
Adrian Essex also won gold for GB&NI in the V70 4x100m relay at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Sweden.
Seyfu came 4th in The Big Half with a time of 64 mins 36s after winning the A Race at the Tracksmiths Twilight 5000s the previous week.
At the Bi-Annual National School Games, a 3 day festival of school sport, Elkie Baker won a bronze medal in the Discus.
Fiona Holland won gold in the 1500m at the London Masters Championships with Israel Nworgu winning gold in the 110mH.
9 Heathsiders took part in the Hampstead Heath Duathalon.
September
12 Heathsiders competed for Middlesex at the Southern Inter-counties Championships in Oxford with Trey Corlis winning the U20M 110mH.
Seyfu finished 8th in the AJ Bell Great North Run while Kader Seyed was the first Heathsider home in the Berlin Marathon recording a time of 2:24.08.
The re-arranged National Cross Country Championships took place in Weston Park, Telford. Charlie Nicolson won a bronze in the U13 Boys race. The U17 Women were the best placed team finishing 4th.
Filipe Cardoso took part in the 100km Peak District Challenge.
The Senior Women were 16th in the Southern Road Relays in Aldershot.
Seyfu finished 2nd in the Vitality London 10km while Rebecca Piggott was first women finisher at the Pride 10km in Victoria Park
Adrian Essex competed and medalled at the International Masters meeting in Bellinzona, Switzerland.
October
40 Heathsiders took part in the Middlesex 10km at Victoria Park with Tom Aldred 2nd. The Club won both Senior Team titles.
Cross Country restarted with Sam Turner picking up where he was last season winning the U17 Mens race at the NWLL at Horsenden Hills.
Helena Stone was runner up in the Newcomer to Volunteering category at the EA London Volunteer Awards.
The first Met League race of the new season saw the Senior Women 2nd and Senior Men 4th while the Junior Women were 1st. Emily Davies and Amy Kirk were both 3rd in their respective races.
Dominic Jones was 2nd in the Centurian 100 an Ultramarathon starting and finishing in Goring.
Sam Macaulay was 12th in the Oxford Half Marathon while Jonathan Hilling was 40th in the Manchester Half and Rebecca Piggott was the first woman finisher at the Abingdon Marathon.
The Senior Mens’ team (Gracie, Kelly, De Cohi, Sevestre) were 5th at the Southern Cross Country Relays only 2 seconds outside the medals.
The Senior Men won the North London Cross Country title at Wormwood Scrubs with Barry Kelly winning the race.
November
Abel Woldegiorgis was 2nd in the Sunday League at Trent Park while Deng Akol was 3rd at the Mornington Chasers 10km in Regents Park.
Sam Turner won again at the 2nd NWLL meeting in Fryent Park. Edith Deakin and Charlie Nicolson also recorded top 3 finishes.
Oliver Newton was 3rd in the Liddiard Trophy with Josie Hinton 4th in the women’s race.
Harry Owrid took part in the Cardiff Cross Challenge
The Met League at Horsenden Hill saw the Senior Women finish 3rd and Men in 4th place with Barry Kelly and Rebecca Piggott the first Heathside finishers.
Filip Kounoupas Prastalo was 2nd in the U13 Boys London Games XC at Parlaiment Hill while Kiara Corkin was 10th in the U17 Womens race.
In the London XC Chempionships Emily Davies was the first Heathside woman with Barry Kelly the first man. The Senior Men finished in 4th place with the women 5th.
The Men won the Fraternity Cup at Trent Park with Tsegay Berhane the first Heathsider home in 3rd place. Genevieve Weston was the first woman with the team 6th.
The NWLL at Trent Park saw top 3 finishes for Sam Turner and Edith Deakin
Matt Beard set a new sub 3 hour marathon PB at the Battersea Park Running Festival.
The final Met League of the season in Hillingdon saw the Women again in 3rd place and the Men 4th. First home was Evangelista Divetain and Barry Kelly.
Emily Davies (800m and 1500m) recorded 1st places at the LUCS Indoor Championships.
December
The Indoor Season started with Trey Corlis (U20M 60mH) and Gabriel Edwards (U15B 60m) both set new Indoor Club Records at Lee Valley.
Tom Aldred was 7th V45 at the Valencia Marathon.
Sam MacAulay won the Chingford League 5km at the Olympic Velopark.
Raoul Metcalfe finished 71st in the World Half Ironman in New Zealand
