Cabbage Patch 10 and Josie Hinton breaks 3 hour marathon

Despite the first Met League of the season taking place on Saturday (see separate report) there was still some impressive racing elsewhere over the weekend. The Cabbage Patch 10 had the second biggest turnout of Heathsiders (some brave folk doubling up here and at the XC) and there were some fantastic results. Other big news was that Josie Hinton broke the three hour mark in her Yorkshire marathon last week – making her the fastest Heathside women in a marathon this year!

10 MILERS

Cabbage Patch 10
There was a slightly smaller than usual turnout of Heathsiders at the Cabbage Patch 10 this year surprisingly, as it is one of the club champs races and generally has a huge Heathside contingent.  Possibly the low numbers are because the race sold out very early, or because of the clash with Claybury. But despite a smaller than usual turnout there were some very good times from the 21 Heathsiders that headed over to Twickenham for this very popular, fast, flat 10 miler. This is a definite PB course, despite a few nasty twists and turns and a gravelly stretch along the river, and there are medals and t-shirts for all, and cabbages for some lucky ones! Joe Garood led the Heathsiders home in a speedy time of 1.00.27 coming 37th overall, with Daniel Johns hot on his heels 33 seconds later, and Eilidh was our first woman coming in 153rd place in a great time of 1:09:15.

MARATHONS AND HALF MARATHONS

Budapest marathon
Jason Bredhauer enjoyed a scenic marathon in Budapest over the weekend and reported back: “The wide, flat streets, clear sky and Budapest's architectual gems to admire as you run up and down the Danube countless number of times have all the makings of a great race!” And he had one – finishing in a time of 3:18:26 and a PB.

Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon
And a late but great result from Josie Hinton who ran in the Plusnet Yorkshire marathon on 7th October and who just scraped in under 3 hours. She wrote: “It's a lovely flat course on country lanes and I managed to nip under 3 hours with a brilliant pb of 2:59:32 and 7th lady. Had feared it might not be my day when my watch died at mile 14, but was lucky enough to meet two young county runners who had joined at half way to pace their dad (and who paced me all the way to mile 26!)”. Jacob added –“this is the fastest Heathside woman’s marathon of the year”.

Amsterdam Marathon and Half Marathon

Leigh James and Tom Ashby headed over to Amsterdam to take part in the full and half marathons respectively. Both had impressive times - see below.

Manchester Half Marathon, 15.10.17
Tara Shreshtha Carney and Natalie Whitworth looked as if they enjoyed the Manchester Half. Tara wrote: "The conditions were perfect for racing and the course was flat and fast. I felt good for the first half of the race, but struggled from 9 miles onwards. However, I managed to maintain my pace and was delighted to finish in a time of 1:35:01...a new PB by over two minutes!"

Chichester Half,Trail Run

Peter Ward sent in a late result from last week, where he ran in the Chichester Half trail run, which he assures us had a 900 foot elevation.  He came home 20th out of 755, and was pleased to have beaten his road race time over the same distance that he ran back in February.

OTHER RACES

Gabi took part in the Bedford Autodrome Duathlon (a qualifier) and despite buffeting winds on the bike section did extremely well and came in 6th in her age group. And new Heathsider Keith Burrows was delighted to come first V40 in the Jekyll and Hyde Duathlon in Hyde Park

Parkruns

Results can be found here - and of note this week - Chiara Borg was first lady at Oakhill in 20.32, and Ruth Forbes first lady at Ally Pally in a time of 23.02
