Junior Records fall on the track and Eva 2nd in the Olympic Park 5k
Slightly quieter week after the virtual marathon and certainly better weather. With one month left of the extended Track and Field season to go Club records keep tumbling with 4 last week alone. This week’s report includes Evangelista Divetain finished 2nd in the 5,000m at the Olympic Park, Zac’s latest Covid-19 Open and Hurdling in Bromley.
Zac's Covid-19 Open Series
Another great evening under the floodlights (or those that are working) at Finsbury Park. Luckily the afternoon rain cleared to be replaced by a lovely still evening perfect for athletics.
The evening saw a host of superb performances with Seyfu running 14:41 in the 5,000m and 3 U13 club records being broken.
Eric Beale winning his 5000m race with 19:03.1 broke Spike Blake's previous mark by almost a minute. Alex Sweet won race 2, and Matthew Field in race 3 before Seyfu won his race lapping the rest of the field.
In the 100m Magdeline Paitoo broke the previous U13G club record of 13.77 running 13.5. With 13.3 Taysia Thorbourne was fastest on the night. In the Mens races Asha Osei was the fastest with 11.2s.
Martin Boyd was first in the 800m with 2:06.7 while in the 1500m Roni Kizikaya was the first Heathsider in 2nd place.
For the first time this season the meeting included field events. In a very high quality long jump competition 6 of the 8 athletes jumped over 4m. Martha Jolly was the first Heathsider jumping 4.60m a PB by 16cm, the 11th furthest by U13G in the UK this year and a new club record. Magdeline Paitoo would have also broken the old record with 4.56m. The High Jump saw a host of PBs as 6 of the competitors cleared 1.30m despite the slippery ground. Etienne Munday cleared the highest hieght with 1.65m.
Other notable performances on the night were the return of Layla McDonald of VPH&TH who broke the 5 minute barrier for the first time and ran the 7th fastest 1500m in the UK this year by U13G. In the 5,000m Yasmin Goater and Hannah Viner of Highgate Harriers both recorded sub 16:50 times.

London Hurdles & MD Open
Another meeting and another Club record this time Imani Quamini improved her U15 75m Hurdles record by 0.3 seconds in Bromley on Sunday. Larissa Wilson also ran a solid 800m.
RunThrough Olympic Park 5k & 10k
Eva Divetain produced a PB by 15s to finish 2nd female in the RunThrough 5km race held in the Olympic Park.
