Fred Hughes 10 mile Road Race

Heathside dominated the race and we returned home with both male and female prizes as well as 5 individual prizes out of the 8 awarded. 

We had 15 women and 23 men racing this hilly and blustery 10 miler.  Although weather conditions were mild and dry, everyone agreed that the hills and wind made for a tough race.  Out of a field of 709 runners we had 16 runners in the top 100. 

George Stewart led the Heathside men home closely followed by Dan Madams. Julian and Gavin completed the scoring team to easily win the men’s prize. 

For the ladies, Sarah Swinhoe was the first Heathsider home with Iva and Bridgit also finishing in top 10 positions.  With Jules in 11th place it was a convincing win for the women’s team. 

Interestingly our winning teams comprised mostly vet runners demonstrating the strength of our vets against younger runners from other clubs. 

Individual prizes were awarded to George (3rd man, 1st V40), Gavin (1st V50), Sarah (3rd VW35) and Bridgit (2nd VW45).
