Frost & Edwards sprint to leading England times
Things are revving up again after the long Covid lull, and our athletes did not let the fallow spell go to waste. There were several outstanding performances on the track and the road last week. On the track our very unofficial star of the week award is shared by two speedy juniors. Our U13 70m hurdling phenomenon Suraya Frost ran 12.54, which not only broke the club record but also made her the third fasted U13 girl in the country so far this year. Our 11-year-old sprinter Gabriel Edwards ran 10.24s in the 75m breaking the club’s 15-year-old U13 record and running UK leading time in the age group. He ran again in the 150m producing the 2nd fastest time nationally by an U13 Boy this year with 20.40s. On the road, Sion Lewis smashed his own marathon PB by five minutes in Cheshire with a time of 2:37:17 – an improvement of nearly 15 minutes since Covid hit us.
Lee Valley Spring Open, Sunday April 25
Simon Baker reports that Suraya Frost, who is trained by Tony Jarrett in Lee Valley, broke Natalie James’s 14-year-iold club record in the U13 70m hurdles of 12.8 by more than a quarter of a second, giving her a time of 12:54.
In the U15 75m Hurdles Imani Quamina improved her club record by 4 hundredths to 12.54s. Thomas and Max Wasserman also ran solid races.
Mia Rosen returned to the track with a winning performance just 1s outside her pb. Martha Jolly and Magdeline Paitoo both ran fast 200m's as well.

Young Gabriel Edwards (U11) set a new U13 club boys’ record in the 75m spring with a nifty PB time of 10.24. He was also first in the 150m in a PB time of 20.40. Simon reports:
The Club's next young sprint talent was doing his thing. Gabriel Edwards ran 10.24s in the 75m winning his heat and breaking the club’s 15-year-old U13 Boys record held by Jade Simon of 10.5s and UK leading time in the age group. He then ran again in the 150m producing the 2nd fastest time nationally by an U13 Boy this year with 20.40s. Coached by Israel, it looks like Gabriel is primed for more great performances this year.

Cheshire Marathon, Pulford, Cheshire, Sunday April 25
Sion Lewis and Josie Hinton both put in cracking performances in this elite marathon. Sion shattered his PB by more than five minutes, coming in at 2:37:17. He said he was ‘chuffed’ with his run, and with his improvement – ‘by 15 minutes since the start of the pandemic, which was some silver lining for me’ (he has improved from 2:51:58 to 2:37:17 since 2018). Josie, in her first marathon since having her first baby, cruised in at 2:56:14, only a couple of minutes shy of her pre-pregnancy PB. Sion was particularly impressed by the organisation of this elite event, including the drinks and gels stations. ‘They were laid out on tables and we had to pick them up, which made us feel like pros,’ he said.

And one more (again)…
Two weeks ago we reported that Sarah Swinhoe had come second in the New Forest Trail Half Marathon (and first V50). Well, it turns out she was being too modest, and was the first woman out of 262 – not bad for 50.
Report by Gavin Evans, with huge help, as always, from Simon Baker.
