Grand Union Canal Half Marathon

It was extremely slim pickings over the weekend, not surprisingly, with the huge turnout (over 100 of us) on Saturday afternoon at the second Met League of the season in Stevenage. As far as I can see there is only one half marathon to report on and of course, the Parkruns.

This “point to point” race, starts at Uxbridge and ends up at Cassiobury Park in Watford, and describes itself  as a flat, scenic, undulating, unusual multi-terrain course.  Four Heathsiders entered, and Catherine Doherty, who achieved a PB,  sent in this little report: “Feeling the guilt of not making XC the day before, Catherine and Dan lined up to do the Grand Union Canal Half Marathon. The thoughts of XC didn’t leave us as we found ourselves throughout the race slipping and sliding on the mud and leaves. We managed to avoid falling into the canal as we dodged people to get ahead.  We agreed that we had seen enough of the Grand Canal as we reached Cassiobury Park in Watford. It was a PB for Catherine completing in 1.42 and Dan wasn’t far behind finishing in 1.45.”  Tom Ashby  and Kerstin Kinkelin followed close behind in 1.46 and 1.52
