Hail and Hilly
he big race of the weekend (in terms of Heathside participants) was, of course, the London XC Champs on Hampstead Heath, where in relatively mild and dry weather conditions, 47 Men and 27 Ladies competed in club colours. Heathside's Ladies continued their glorious xc season with Ella Waldman, Kelly Thorneycroft, Rebecca Bunting and Sue Rust securing a team 1st place with less than half the points of the 2nd team, all four finishing in the top 15. Kelly, Rebecca and Sue finished in a group of 5 runners, separated by only 2 seconds, in what must have been a thrilling sprint finish to watch!
For the Men, Tom Aldred, Simon Dunderdale, Sion Lewis and Daniel McKeown scored 8th out of 29 teams, with Tom taking 3rd place overall and less than 40 seconds behind the winner.
The event marked Peter Crockford's 500th race and to celebrate this milestone his generous and talented daughter made and handed out delicious flapjacks to us all after the race, for which treat, on behalf of the club, a hearty thanks!
Whilst others were dashing around a not-too-muddy Hampstead Heath, Bethany Scott was running a Half Marathon around the home of Romeo and Juliette (ie. Verona, Italy), whilst Jane Stephens, Rob Shulman and others ran in the Great Ethiopian International 10k. Unfortunately, results are only given for the top 10 Men & Women, but Jane writes: "Addis Ababa 10k - 2,355m above sea level, over 40,000 participants, no official times. Those wanting to race got close to the front and got in around 47-8 mins. Those at the back were able to run when the field opened up at around 8k! This part of the race was just like a party, with dancing and singing, but no running!!!"
Closer to home, Maryam Khosravi ran in the Victoria Park Half and bagged 3rd Female; Rajiv Ratan was in St Neots, Cambridgeshire for a swift Half (Marathon, that is...) - looking at the end of the results listing, it appears the officials disqualified a runner for continuing to wear headphones after being given 2 warnings!

In Parkrun news, numbers were slightly less than normal due to the later in the day XC. However, Jonathan Litchfield and Jessica Vinluan were "across The Pond" in the (Disunited?) States running in the 12th Roosevelt Island (Washington) PR, where they both nabbed 2nd place M & F respectively. Ursula Wilson, still proudly a club member, was "down under" getting 2nd F in the 5th Orange (New South Wales) PR.
