Heathside Dom-N8 at Crouch End
YMCA Crouch End 10, Sunday 21st May
Probably the race that is closest to being ‘ours’ these days, Heathside turned out in numbers once again to run, marshal and support on a glorious Sunday morning around Crouch End and Alexandra Palace. I had intended to join the more than 1100 runners, but an ill timed IKEA delivery unfortunately put paid to that so my morning workout was restricted to flat pack assembly and swearing (but probably more sweating than the sub-40 speedsters).
Away from my domesticity and back to the main event, the headlines were victories for Heathside in both the Men’s and Women’s Team events, a 1-2-3 in the women’s race as Ella Waldman was first home, with Sara Black and Maryam Khosravi both setting PBs as they took their places on the podium behind her. Over in the Men’s side of the race, Luke Wynne setting a PB as he came 2nd overall, while two more Heathsiders in Mario Cadete and Martin Potter (1st V50 and, rumour has it, new V50 record holder) came 3rd and 4th respectively. As a non Strava-ite, I’ll admit I have no idea how this was done, but thanks to Dan for the heads up on this nice little re-run of everyone’s race, so if you want, you can re-live the exact moment the fella from Highgate started pulling away to win:

Back to the results and there are shout outs too for Carl Heap and Caroline White, who were first male and female V60s and Rick White who was first V70. There were more PBs that is strictly decent on such a tough course - and far too many to list here individually - but behind from the speedsters at the very front, Laurence Arnold, Raymond Yau, Alun Nash, Ann Woulfe and Rachel Scott Halls all deserve mentions for posting best ever times on the day - well done to everyone and big thanks to everyone who helped set up the event and were out in the sunshine cheering the runners on. Looking forward to next year’s event already.
Coventry Sprint Tri, Sunday 21st May
A quick pop over to Triathlon Corner as Joe McKeown returned to his home stomping ground to take on the Cov Sprint Tri with brother Dan there to cheer him on (well Joe says cheering, I imagine ‘heckling’ could be closer to the truth…). Whether it was cheers or jeers that spurred him on, Joe had a fantastic race finishing 9th overall in 1:13.57 although he’s also demanding a steward’s enquiry on whether the 5k run was slightly over distance or not...
Herts and North Middx Veterans League, Stevenage, Monday 22nd May
These aren’t on Po10 yet, so thanks to Tony K for sending them in and bodging the results together with Dan’s help. Full times and scores below in the full results, but a quick glance sees an impressive time from Dan McK in the 3000 (just a dip outside 10 mins) and plenty of good runs in the various 800m events as Ed Garrett, Tony Killilea and Jessica Vinluan all won their heats (or age brackets, I can’t quite work out which!).
Starfish Marathon, Bexhill, Sunday 14th May
One result that may have slipped through the net was Madeleine Minson’s effort at this marathon along Bexhill seafront the other week. Too modest to email in herself, Phil Hogg mentions that after a ‘torrid time suffering from flu and colds’ throughout the spring, Madeleine might have been deserving of a medal just for getting to the start line, which makes the fact she finished 7th lady in 4:22 even more notable. Nothing fishy about that result.
Parkruns, Saturday 20th May
Props to Pete Northall for finishing first at Finsbury, Liam Proudlock and Rebecca Bunting for being the premiers at Pymmes and Panshanger and Ursula Wilson for overcoming all others at Orange. Full weekly results here:
