Inter Borough
It was the highest turn out ever at London Heathside’s Finsbury Park track for the North London Inter Borough Championships, taking everyone by surprise, especially organizers Russell, Ruth and Rachel who were responsible for organizing the event on Sunday 1st March 2015. A total of 250 juniors turned up to race, from the under 7s up to the under 17s, representing four North London boroughs which included Camden, Hackney, Barnet and Haringey. London Heathside’s Juniors were out in force.
For the older runners, Under 13s upwards, there was an extra incentive. The prize for the first five finishers in each race was the chance to race in the London Marathon’s Mini Marathon in April. Although Haringey’s athletes weren’t competing for this as the borough choose their runners in a different way. That didn’t stop the London Heathside Juniors doing themselves ever so proud with medals and trophies all round!
Starting with the under 7s boys race, the youngest Heathsider on the day was none other than 5 year old Daniel Boyle (you might recognize the name) who finished in a trophy winning third place. One for the future, no question! Not be outdone was Daniel’s older sister, 7 year old Hannah Boyle who finished second in the under 9s race over 1.2k with a time of 5.59.
First winner of the day for London Heathside was in the Under 11 Boys race.
9-year old Arthur Reed burst through in the final 25 metres of this 1.2k race to overtake the leader and take first place in a time of 4.46. Not far behind were Heathsiders Samuel Harris (3rd/4.52), Oliver O’Connor (4th/4.56) and Etienne Munday (5th/4.56).
In the Under 13 Girls race (2.4K) there were 51 runners competing, and Ella Conlan finished really well in 17th place with her time of 10.19.
None other than Heathside’s legendary junior, Ruarie McGonagle, now aged 11 and racing in the U13 boys. Stepping up to race older and faster boys, 48 runners in total, Ruarie surprised nobody, coming second over the 2.4k with a time of 8.39. A fine result.
In the U15 girls in a field of 25, Heathside regular Meg Naylor finished 5th in 9.34 and Phoebe Crockford finished a second later in 6th with a time of 9.35.
Congratulations to David Keto, second winner of the day for Heathside. David won the U15 boys race in a time of 7.57.
In the U17 women’s race Heathside’s Genevieve Weston finished in 2nd place in 9.19. Molly Harrison (5th/10.07) and Ottavia Laidler (6th/0.16) not too far behind.
Final Heathside winner of the day was Johnny Naylor who beat all the U17 men with a time of 7.36.
