Pride 10k, City2Surf, Ultra12
A quietish weekend, but a good mix of racing nevertheless, from 100 metres to 50 miles. Most notable was Leigh James coming third woman with a brand new PB in Pride 10k, and, Monika Newton completed the gruelling 50 mile Ultra12 coming in very impressively 4th woman in the Solo Female race.
Elsewhere Helen Phelps competed in the Bondi Beach 14k City2Surf coming 10,428th out of 67,537 finishers, Andrew Dunderdale was 15th in the London Summer 10K at Regent’s Park, Tony Killilea competed at the Birmingham British Masters Championships and John Driscoll had some fun cycling in a sportive in Ludlow. Earlier in the week a handful of Heathsiders took part in the Lee Valley sprint evening – David Ayre coming first in his 100metre sprint (full results below).
Leigh sent in this piece on her experience at Pride 10k: “I was in a three-way battle for second place from just before 5k right to the finish – only just avoiding a head on collision with a cyclist with about 500m to go (clearly he didn’t see the battle I was in, or notice the 1000 or so runners slogging around the park). Not sure I can blame the incident for losing out on second!? I came third in a new PB of 38:27. And I’m told LH got first team. Although I didn’t stay for the prize giving, so can’t be totally sure on that.”
John Driscoll’s account of his cycling is as follows:” I went off to Ludlow this weekend to do the Sportive that curved west into Wales and back again. 'Shropshire drier than Surrey' isn't normally the case, but as 'only' 90 mins of the wet stuff fell on Sunday morning, I ended up being more fortunate than the folk doing the Prudential 100. Weather predictions had been shocking and 150 of the 350 riders who'd signed up decided to have a duvet day instead! As luck would have it, it was never cold and once the downpour had stopped, empty country lanes, stunning views and well equipped flapjack stops greeted the riders. One for a 2015 Heathside road trip...... Overall time 4 hours 52 for 69 miles and 3700 feet of climbing.”
