Queen Liz Park 10k, Last Friday of the Month 5k

A little thin on the ground this week in terms of results, although there were good turnouts at 2 of London’s monthly events and a few end of season sprints up the road at Lee Valley.

Queen Elizabeth Park 10k Series, Saturday 1 September

Both Gavin and Tammela sent in reports for this one, so I’ll mash them together here:

“A warm and humid early autumn’s morning for the penultimate event in the club’s Rob Jackson road running championships – a 10k at the Olympic Park. 13 was the not at all unlucky number of Heathsiders that took on the three-lap course. Run mainly along river paths it was actually quite twisty and turny, as well as surprisingly undulating because of all the bridges. Additionally, the Garmins agreed that it was somewhere between 100m and 160m longer than advertised. That, and the 21C heat, meant PBs were in short supply.

The rapidly-improving Jack Hardy was first home for Heathside, and eighth overall, in 36:58. Gavin Evans was next in 38:42 followed by Doug Rendle in 39:57. Emilia Vynnycky was the first Heathside woman. Not too far behind was a tightly knit pack fronted by Tammela Platt (46:32), followed by Guillaume Pichois (46:33), Beatriz Lafuente (46:32 – same chip time as Tammela’s) and Nilesh Goswami (46:42). Emelia was the first female V40 and Gavin was the first V50.

Harbour Club Last Friday of the Month 5k, Friday 31 August

9 Heathsiders turned out for the monthly lunchtime race at Hyde Park, lead home by Jonathan Litchfield in 18:24 and Mark Jefford who was just behind in 18:27. A little further back we saw a clutch of PBs as Chris Prickett (20:16), Satu Hietanen (20:24, 1st VW45) and Shaun Kennedy (20:42) all posted new best times. Rob Shulman, Leo Pemberton, Jessica Vinluan and Alun Nash completed the runners wearing navy, red and gold.

Lee Valley Open Sprint Series, Wednesday 29 August

A quick look through the results turns up 3 attendees at the recent Lee Valley sprints evening, Tom Bedwell finishing his 100m heat in 13.73 while Joel Watson and Naomi Conlon posted times of 26.58 and 28.37 respectively in the 200s.

Parkruns:

3 north London based 1st finishes this week: Rich Macauley at Grovelands; Olivia Desborough at Highbury Fields; and Elizabeth Beard at Ally Pally. Keith Burrows takes the prize for farthest afield though, as he finished 2nd at Western Springs over in Auckland. Full results here.
