Rapid Rich reigns in Royston

In part two of this week’s race round-up we have the results of the exciting climax of the Sunday league cross-country from Royston, which saw outstanding performances from both the men’s and women’s teams on a challenging course, with an historic victory from the women’s A and B teams.

Men’s captain, Tim Marshall, sends the following report::

Not Just a local race for local people

Last Sunday saw the metropolitan hordes from Heathside descend upon the sleepy Hertfordshire village of Royston for the final race of the Sunday League cross country competition.  Our very own local hero Rich Macaulay was the star of the show finishing as 1st Male overall in a staggering time of 34:22 given that the course is a torturous 874 feet (according to my Strava) of climbing over 5.6 miles.  Fortunately, mild temperatures and sun replaced the base camp Everest feel of last year leading to quicker times and less precarious descents all round.  In addition to Rich, other notable finishers were Satu who was 5th woman and Nick Dodd who finished 3rd Male V60.   Massive congratulations are also in order for Heathside women who won both the A and B divisions over the season! (full results below-overall individual results and shoutouts to follow soon).

It's sad to say goodbye to another year of Sunday fun, but time to say a big thank you to everyone who's been part of Sunday League 2017-8, especially key organiser and rabble rouser in chief Laura Boothman (who in typical fashion did an extra 10 miles to Baldock after the race) . Overall this season we had an amazing 72 runners plus guests and really appreciate all the support from drivers, photographers, bakers, cheerers, you name it.  Whether you inspired us from the very front (kept our B teams in contention from the very back, or consistently finished in between, every run mattered.

Most of all we just hope you enjoyed it.

PS from Laura:

Huge congratulations are due to Tim who has been great!  This season has seen one of the best men’s team performances we’ve ever and certainly the only time in recent history that we’ve kept A and B men’s teams all season.
