Results round-up
A relatively quiet weekend race-wise, with no XC fixtures. The main event for the club was the Stevenage Half, the penultimate event in the Club’s Rob Jackson Road Race Championships, in which Sandra Buckton increased her lead at the top of the Womens, and Robert Bowler picked up some very valuable points to bolster his 2nd position and challenge current leader Andy Barnes in the Mens. There were some notable other performances in the handful of races with club participants: Tom Stephenson’s overall 3rd in the Stevenage Half, Ula Cartwright-Finch’s 3rd Female (and 1st in Age-cat.) in the Regent’s Park 10km, Martin Potter’s 4th overall (and 3rd age-cat.) in the Deal 5km, and both Alice Hosking and Sandra Buckton posting PB’s in their races.
Where available, Chip Times and positions are given.

Stevenage Half-Marathon (Sunday 1st November)
Tom writes: “There was a good Heathside turnout and it was a beautiful day for running, no wind at all and lovely autumn sunshine. The course was two laps, using cycle paths. A little bit up and down in places and not flat, but nothing too outrageous, mainly just dips and inclines into various underpasses below the main roads. I came in in 3rd which I was very pleased with - a podium finish and 3rd place prize is always a bonus!
Sandra writes: “Sunday saw the penultimate race in the Rob Jackson Series - the Stevenage Half Marathon. It was the morning after Halloween and the first train out of London was a strange mix of sleeping fancy-dress partygoers on the way home and nervous runners desperately imbibing caffeine! On the start line, the early morning fog lifted, to be followed by an unseasonably warm November morning. The course followed paths around the town and through park,s and although predominantly flat, the large number of ramps out of underpasses were challenging on tired legs.
Some great results from Heathside, with Tom Stephenson coming 3rd overall and James Lynch within the top 20. Alice Hosking (née Lighton) ran a PB to come fifth female. In the vets categories Sandra Buckton was 3rd Vet (also a PB) and Robert Bowler narrowly missed out on the podium, coming 4th in V50 category. Great runs too by Joe McKeown, Richard Peachment, Elliot Reed and Sarah Illongsworth, all picking up valuable points for the Rob Jackson trophy.”

Mornington Chasers Regent’s Park Winter Series 10km (Sunday 1st November)
Only one Heathsider at this month’s event (I would’ve made it two, but for a pulled back muscle…), but Ula was 1st in her age-cat. and 3rd Female overall.
33rd Ula Cartwright-Finch (V35) 00:41:58
1379 finishers
Marlow Half-Marathon (Sunday 1st November)
Philip writes: “Ran the Marlow Half Mara. on Sunday - possibly the best road half marathon in the country! Stunning scenery, endless uphills, great organisation. A bit like running the “tough guy 10 miles” on a Wednesday night, but tougher and longer!
27th Philip Hogg (V45) 01:28:45
817 finishers
Deal 5 Miler (Sunday 1st November)
Martin writes: “Just two Heathside runners took part in the Deal 5 miler. A flat ‘out and back’ course in very foggy conditions. I was 4th home (3rd vet), with Jackie coming in 8th Lady and 4th Supervet (yes, lots of old gits on the Kent coast, obviously retiring by the sea!).”
4th Martin Potter (3rd V40) 28.08
56th Jackie Wastell (8th lady, 4th Supervet) 36.39
242 finishers
