Seyfu smashes The Big Half, and great results at the Heath Duathlon, Southend City Open and Heathside Club Champs pt 2

The highlight of the weekend was a big win for Seyfu in the Big Half! Elsewhere there was fun on the Heath in the annual Duathlon (Pondathon) and earlier in the week young Heathsiders headed off to Southend, the highlights being Malia Anderson-Watson coming first in the discus, and Jayden Smith and Kingston Bennet coming first in 75m, and Kingston also first in 150m and long jump. We also now have the Heathside Club Champs results Pt 2.

Hampstead Heath Duathlon, Hampstead Heath, 4th Sept 2022

Hannah Yip reported:

“At least twelve Heathsiders took part in the 23rd Hampstead Heath Duathlon (better known as the Pondathon). You swim three lengths of the 60m lido before running to the Men's Pond, Ladies' Pond, and finally the Mixed Pond (swimming a lap of each and running in between) before finishing on the Athletics Track; this adds up to 930m of swimming and 4.36km of running. The water temps were a comfortable 20 degrees or so, and there were over 280 participants.

I was captain of London Heathside AC 1 (informally, the 'Heathside Halibuts') – a team of five with Francois Barou, Chris Vincent, Eilidh Wagstaff, and Gabi Johnson. The other Heathsiders were Luka Melon, Sergio di Noto, Julia Kelk, David Hallam, debutant David Ingamells, Ann Woulfe, and Steven Murnane.

Predictably, Luka and Sergio led the way, finishing within the top ten. Francois was the third Heathsider home, despite the fact that he swam breaststroke with shoes on! I was chasing Chris and Eilidh throughout, and managed to shave a minute off my time last year.

A special thanks to Gabi, who stepped in for an injured Jo Irwin just over twelve hours before the event started.
