Watford Half and several 10K's

This main focus of attention this weekend moved back to road racing with plenty of good competition, and PB’s aplenty despite the incidence of hills and / or non ideal weather

Watford Half Marathon,  4 February

Gavin writes :

“ Andy Barnes was once again the first Heathsider home on a cold, blustery but dry Sunday. The hills on this one seem to get steeper by the year, but, surprising for Watford, the countryside makes up for it. At least 40 Heathsiders turned up (I say, ‘at least’ because I counted six who, for reasons unknown, were not listed as Heathsiders, and there may have been more I missed).

Andy cruised it in 1:19:15 to put him in 35th place out of 1,875 finishers. He was followed by Joe Garrood and Michael Cockings, who surged, lagged, and surged again to pass first me and then Jake for a PB. Jake also ran a PB.

Sara Black was the first Heathside woman in 1:32:20, followed by Liz Drake and Louisa Pointon. Between those two was Nick Dodd, who was the second V60. I was the third V50, Dominic Jackson was the sixth V50 and Sara was the seventh V35 woman. By the way, Dan Johns, in peak marathon training, did a six mile training run before Watford and then jogged it in 1:25:01.”
