Watford Wednesday and Last Friday
Kabir (equipped with stopwatch) was trackside at the Watford Wednesday Night Open and submitted a report
"To kick off the evening there were eight 400m races, sadly no Heathsiders, however the highlight came in the last race when Andrew Osagie won in 47.69."
"There were fifteen 1500m races in total and they were packing between 16 to 18 runners in most of them."
We had three of our women in race eight, with Bethany claiming the bragging rights from Ula and Kelly in 4:41. It would have been a photo finish between Richard and Charles, who both ran 4:08, were it not that they were in separate races.
We only had one competitor in the late-starting 3000m, where Kenneth Boulton ran 10:10.
According to the Power of 10 results, *every one of our results on the night was a PB*. If that's got your attention, the last Wednesday night Watford meet is on the 6th September. The events are:
7:00pm 200m
7:15 High Jump
7:30 100m
8:00 800m
9:15 3000m
By the way there is going to be a 'showdown' over 1500m between Charles and Richard next Sunday at the St Mary's track in Twickenham. Come and join us or bring your athletes.
John F (equipped with stopwatch) was trackside at the Hercules Wimbledon Festival of 5,000m:
"The floodlights were out of action at Wimbledon Park at the Night of the 5K’s, and they resorted to ringing the track with a slightly newer version of the battery powered lights that had kept us going at Finsbury Park for a few winters. It was a similar but smaller scale version of the 10ks at Highgate, with DJs and crowds in close proximity.
"Andrew Brooker was making a final effort to reduce further his already impressive 5000m track PB of 15.16.89, having started the season on 15.37.49. He was placed in race 6 out of 7, the second fastest. After a surprisingly off pace 75 second first lap, the field spurted to a couple of 71-72 second laps and then varied between 72-73-74 for most of the rest, with Andrew as one of the front group making several efforts to push the pace when it showed signs of flagging. A final massive effort over the last lap saw Andrew cross the line at 15.13.96 taking 3 more seconds off his PB.
"All the more impressive considering that he was just about managing to keep a foot injury at bay."
Elsewhere
John D had his camera at the Last Friday 5k and provided the agonised photo of Jonathan L which I've churlishly splashed around this week's report. We had 10 runners in action, with Charles coming second in 16:18
There was a handful of Heathsiders at the LICC fixture at Allianz Park, where Rose Garrett finishhed first in her 800m race.
As might be expected on a Bank Holiday weekend, we had parkrunners spread far and wide. I leave it to you to check out the weekend's parkrun results and decide which was the most exotic destination.
Tony, Adrian and Lauren were in action at the World Championships of Ultra Multievents in Finland. Adrian was first in his age group and Lauren was seventh in hers. The results are so baffling and manifold that you'll have to check them out on the original website.
