Women Triumph at Vets League No. 3

03.07.19 Highlight of the last week was a fantastic win for the women at the Middlesex Masters League match 3 in Lee valley, with the men coming in second. Still all to play for in the final match in a couple of weeks, which will decide whether men and women reach the finals. There was also amongst other events elsewhere, an exciting battle for the fastest 5000m at Finsbury Park on Friday and a trip to Transylvania for the European Duathlon Champs.

Watford Open Meeting , Watford, 26th June 2019
Simon reported: "Thomas Archer is preparing for his appearance in the National School Championships in great form, breaking the 4 minute mark for 1500m and setting a new U17 Club record.  Rosa Serafini also set a season best in an earlier race."

Herts & North Middlesex Masters League match 3, Lee Valley, 24 June
Jim Connell sent in this report: The rain just about held off, making for pleasant conditions for this event – the third Herts & North Middlesex Masters League . The men’s and women’s teams showed up with intent. We filled all the scoring slots on the team sheet and we didn’t disappoint.

The ladies are well placed to make it to the finals in September and by the end of the night they had cemented that position with a dominant fixture win. There were PBs’a’plenty as the girls just kept winning and performing. They are seriously up for it this season and it would be unfair to single out any one performance if you look at the results below. Sue Rust stepped in as a late addition in the 1500m only minutes after completing her 400m to give the team the best chance of taking more points, and she delivered, finishing second behind a very fast Herts Phoenix Runner. From a team perspective, the last race of the night, the Medley Relay, made up of 200, 200, 400 and 800 metres summed up the camaraderie . We were all piled on the side-lines roaring them home as they stretched out and broke down the opposition, including the runner from Herts Phoenix - who went about closing the gap on the last leg but would ultimately fail as our Emily found another gear on the second lap of her 800 and brought home the win with a massive smile.

The boys, with a depleted team this season, have still been snapping at the heels of Ilford, and we placed second on the night, to give ourselves an outside chance of reaching the finals IF we can pull out all the big dogs for the final fixture.

Adrian, Scarlett and Mark Jefford stepped in and took part in multiple events on the team sheet where we didn’t have a scorer in that event. Jim was pleased with his 5000m run nipping under 19 mins for the first time in over 3 years and taking the points in the V35 cat (not bad for 46!), with Gavin and Carl taking points in the same race, for their age cats. Mark Lawrence made SBs in the triple jump and discus. In the medley relay the men were solid as they trailed Ilford on the home straight by a mere couple of seconds to place a clear 2nd.  Overall a pretty excellent night’s competition.

London Heathside, Finsbury Park 5000s, Finsbury Park Track, 28 June 2019
This was an open meeting held on Finsbury Park track, and was  very well attended, from Heathside and others,  producing many PBs. Jacob wrote:  “Race wins from Fabio, Marcus, Joe, first woman in her race from Emma (and a huge PB).  Amazing PBs from Jim Connell, Katie Sandford, Celine Bradley, Paul Beale, Julia Bijl, Lenny Martin (whilst not taking photos), Olivia Desborough, Catrin Tyler, Alex Sweet, Graham Wilkinson, Roger Maidment, Peter Gould, Charles Hardy.  Plus good overall placings from Tom Aldred and Seyfu. Full results can be found below.

Windrush Aquathlon, Brockwell Park, (500m swim, 5K run) 30.06.19
Sif, Eilidh and Holly took part in this swim/run event begining in Brockwell Park Lido, and finishing with laps of the park. Sif led the trio home. Here is a report from Eilidh: " The Windrush Triathlon Club organises an aquathlon in Brockwell Park annually and Sif, Holly and I took part in this year’s event. It was a target race for me as improving my aquathlon PB is one of my main sporting goals for 2019. With that in mind, I’d submitted an optimistically/deludedly fast predicted swim time ahead of the event. My thinking was that setting off with a relatively fast band of swimmers would motivate me (and provide lots of drafting opportunities); in reality it meant I was aggressively overtaken and sporadically kicked in the head for ten arduous laps. Thankfully the run was more enjoyable and the best part of all came after I’d crossed the finish line and got to enjoy the watermelon, and other tropical fruits, laid out by the event organisers. Sif was 12th woman overall, while I was 14th and Holly was 30th." Full results below.

Gravesend Trail run, 30K, 30.06.19
Liam, Louisa and Dan took part in a 30K trail run down in Gravesend, Liam led the trio home in 2.29 closely followed by Dan and then Louisa – excellent times on a warm and hilly course.

LSAA Yr 7&8 Championships, Mile End, 11th June 2019
Some late results for this event back on 11th June, where we have a club record achieved for Laila Tepesta in the 100m.
