National Schools Championships, LICC Meeting, & Fast Friday 10,000m

ESAA Track and Field Championships 2021, Manchester, 9-11th July 2021

The National Schools Championships were held over the weekend in Manchester on the same track the Olympic Trials were held.  This is the pinnacle of junior athletics. This year numbers were restricted with only those ranked in the top 16 and with the required qualification time invited to compete. Heathside had two Juniors taking part.  Thomas Archer ran in the senior boys 1500m on Friday evening and unfortunately was unable to keep up with the pace of Alex Melloy who has run 3:46 this season and finished a slightly disappointing 12th place.
On Sunday the Junior Age Group (U15) competed Heathside were represented by Trey Corlis running for London in the 80mH.  Trey, who is coached by Israel, finished 2nd in his heat with the third fastest time.  In the final he was trailing in 3rd as they went over the last hurdle but his great sprinting speed and excellent dip on the line earn’t him the silver medal ahead of the previous No1 ranked athlete Rayhan Mourtada of Kent who was given the same time.  Well done Trey, who took a massive 0.71s off his BP and broke his current club record.
Elsewhere former Heathsider Larissa Wilson finished 7th in the Junior Girls 300m heats.

Chiltern Ridge Half Marathon                     11/7/21

Felipe reports from the picturesque trail race, along The Ridgeway in Buckinghamshire

“ It was a warm day but not too hot. The atmosphere was relaxed with only 89 runners, starting one at a time. The trail course had really steep ascents and descents, muddy in sections with lots of variety in scenery. Besides the impressive views by the monument to the South Africa (Boer) War, you passed in front of Chequers, went through woods, farm fields and a small village “
