Battersea Park Half, Barcelona Marathon, BFTTA Indoor Open
The main events for London Heathside this weekend were the Battersea Park half marathon, a sub 3 hour marathon for James Martin in the Barcelona Marathon, the UK CAU Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships, the BFTTA Indoor Open and the Hyde Park 10k. And of course parkruns! Also excellent late results from the previous weekend– the last NWLL XC race of the season, and George Sant came first overall in the Regents Park 10K

Battersea Park Half Marathon, Battersea Park, 9th March 2024
Gavin Evans sent in this report: “Six Heathsiders took part in this eight-and-a-half lap half marathon on a perfect Saturday – no rain, no wind, not too cold or hot. Most did it as part of preparations for Spring marathons. The only hassle was having to weave past slower runners who hogged the right hand side of the path.
Steve Pennington was the first Heathsider home in 1:23:49, making him the second V55 man, although he was disappointed with his performance, wondering why he goes through the half quicker in a marathon than his usual half marathon time.
Tony Shearer was the second Heathsider, but he was still recovering from a cold and had to stop to tie his laces. His time was 1:25:33.
Next was Gavin Evans, the first V60, in 1:26:45 followed by Alex Caballero in 1:29:18.
Rebecca Taylor was the second V45 woman in 1:35:24 and helping to pace her was Joe McKeown who came in a second later.”

UK CAU Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships, Wollaton Park, 9.3.24
Simon Baker reported “Despite the heavy rain of the previous weeks and closed car parks as a result, the annual inter-counties took place at Wollaton Park in Nottingham. The weather was mild and sunny and the courses generally held up well, however a stiff breeze ensured there was an extra challenge. Ten Heathsiders represented Middlesex which is affect the British Championships. Amy Kirk was best placed with 39th place in the U15 Girls race.”

Simon Baker reported “Ealing Eagles hosted the last NWLL of the season on the 2nd March. This saw a new venue debut for the first time at Hanwell West London. The course was a mix of very wet grass and paths. The Club's Young Athletes rounded off their Club XC season in style with wins for the U13 Boys, U15 Boys and U15 Girls. Individually Sam Turner made it a clean sweep of the U15 Boys races. Elsewhere there were lots of top 10 finishes.
