There was another club record to report, this time in the V55 category to Damien Lane at the Tokyo Marathon, as well as a couple of 6 star achievements ;
Damien reports that a
“ intrepid group of Heathsiders took to the streets of Tokyo for that city’s marathon. Damien Lane ran a PB and club V55 record 2.46:32 to finish 667th overall and 6th V55 (1st non Japanese V55). Jamie Morris cruised around in 2:54:10, despite an injury impacted run up to the race and Jim Connell completed the dynamic trio in 3:34:15.
Damien completed his Abbott WMM 6 Star journey while Jim collected his second 6 Star.
We all ran negative splits, and celebrated in fine style with Asahi and Karaoke .”
To provide background, the Abbott 6 Star Medal was introduced “ to honour runners who complete all six major Marathons ..upon completion of your sixth Major you will be included in the Hall of Fame “ The six marathons in the series are Tokyo, London, Boston, Berlin, Chicago, and New York

Sri Chinmoy Mad March 10K, Battersea Park, 2 Mar
Elsewhere, there was a well attended 10K race at Battersea Park, reported on by Gavin :
“ Eleven Heathsiders ran in this cold, puddly, periodically rainy, slightly windy 10 and got under the 40 minute mark.
First home was Keith Geoghegan in 34:38 followed by Sammy Keenan (34:49), who was running his maiden 10k, with Rob Shulman, in a rich vein of form at 57, third in 37:05.
The first Heathside woman was Sarah Swinhoe (who was not feeling well) in 38:58, making her the first V50 and the fourth woman overall.
The others who got under the 40-minute mark were Kwasi Agyei-Owusu (37:14), Alex Sweet (37:27 – after a hard training week), Matt Beard, a PB of 38:39 and Phil Hogg (39:30 – after a seven mile ‘warm-up’ run).
The race ended on a glum note for me. I returned to the baggage area to find that my wallet and keys had been stolen, meaning that I had to cancel and replace all my cards and change my front door locks (because one of the cards stolen was my driver’s license, which had my address on it). I should add that the Sri Chinmoy race organisers took the trouble to phone me and refund my race fee. “
