Chingford League, Ridgeway Run, Coventry Half & more

There were two main contingents of Heathsiders racing this beautiful autumnal weekend, taking in a Chingford League fixture in Trent Park - where James Wooldridge was second in the young athletes race - and the 15km Ridgeway Run, with a super 10th place for Dan McKeown in the Coventry Half one of a scattering of other results.

The results for the young athletes Chingford League race don’t seem to be available yet, but I’m informed that James (U17) placed second, which is a great start to his cross-country season. Alex Chown Ahern and Oscar Banyard also raced, raising coach Zac’s hopes that their participation could become a regular event. Miron (U20) led home a 13-strong pack of fellow clubmates in the senior race after apparently having lost half a pint of blood beforehand due to a nose bleed, with Richard and Ryan in a neck-and-neck finish not far behind.

Ten Heathsiders took to the hilly terrain of the Ridgeway Run, which unfolds over around 15km of footpaths and bridleways overlooking the Chilterns – a beautiful run worth the pain of the hills, word has it. Trail running aficionados Matt and Edie were first home for Heathside, with Edie finishing fifth woman overall, and many from our club not far behind.

Dan’s PB and 10th place finish in the Coventry Half makes for a great result on the road race front, while Henry's result from the Liverpool Marathon (pictured) is worth reporting not only because it was a PB but because it came a day after he filmed 122 different breeds of waterfowl. How about that for preparation? Congratulations are also belatedly due to Jill and Lyn for their half marathon PBs from the previous weekends, and a welcome back to Pete whose run in the Civil Service relays was his first race after three months out. As far as this weekend’s parkruns are concerned there was a good crowd of Heathsiders out in Finsbury Park, but the club’s fastest 5km of the weekend came from Tom, who cranked out 15:17 in the Wimbledon Common parkrun.
