Wormwood Scrubs was arresting....

An exciting weekend for races – with Wormwood Scrubs definitely being the place to be seen  on Saturday afternoon, for the SEAA Cross Country Relay championships. Elsewhere over the weekend (that I know about) there were half marathons in the Royal Parks and Blenheim Palace, a marathon in South Africa, and various parkruns... apologies for any results that have been left out.

Cross Country

Wormwood scrubs was bathed in late summer sunshine for the large gang of Heathsiders of all ages that turned out  for the SEEA cross country relay championships -  4 men’s teams (4 stages running 4k) and  3 women’s teams (3 stages  running 3k) and teams for U13 girls and boys (3 stages x 2k), U15 boys  and girls (3 stages x 2k), and under 17 girls (3 stages x 2.5k) -  all had strong runs. It’s a flat, fast course, and though it was soft underfoot was mostly dry, so spikes or trail shoes were both options.
The women’s A team ran a blistering race with Sue coming first in the first leg, Sarah second in hers and Fiona a fast  third leg ensuring  the team got second prize overall. Sarah then proceeded to run the last leg of the C team to  complete the set. Georgie enjoyed running her inaugural XC race. The men also had great runs - of special note, a great second leg for the senior men's A team from Alex Galloway, and a really solid performance from the men's B team as well.

Marathons and Half Marathons

Ursula thought an actual marathon would  be good training for her forthcoming Amsterdam marathon in two weeks, and so took part in the the Goss Balfe South Coast Marathon in Durban. Despite it being a tough roller coaster course, very hilly, she said she felt strong  and came in third lady in 03hrs19min27s!  She now claims to be tapering .....Nearer to home two Heathsiders took part in some scenic  half marathons - Louise Breuer  ran through the parks of London in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon along with 12,500 others, taking in Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, St James’s Park and Green Park finishing in a very respectable 1hrs54min43s, and Henry Hamilton took part in the first Blenheim Palace half marathon, and despite claim to have set off too fast and fading, had a great run in 1hrs33min57s.
