Crouch End 10k and fun run, YAL 2 Parliament Hill

The main event for our club road runners this weekend was the Crouch End 10k in which 66 Heathsiders raced. At the front end it was an impressive battle with Michael Stocks racing against 2 Harriers to finish third, finishing well over a minute ahead of the rest of the runners. After that the top 20 finishers in the race were predominantly Heathsiders with many of our men achieving PBs. For the women it was also a closely fought race with Iva Raykov running an excellent race, in second place throughout. The team prizes for women and men were both awarded to Heathside, with scoring teams comprising Michael Stocks, Rob Salter and Edward Garrett for the men, and Iva, Edie Fassnidge and Miranda Yau for the women.

YAL, Parliament Hill, 20/5/12

Sunday saw a tremendous performance by all the youngsters who competed in the YAL, resulting in the “athletes” finishing second.Unfortunately, however, we were downgraded to third team overall, as the league also gives points for officials, and as we had no track officials, we lost 20 points, which cost us 2nd place. The next fixture is on 17 June and we need a good turn out, especially from officials to avoid losing out on promotion. Please help out if you can!

The athletes are to be congratulated on their excellent result which was was despite having no under 17 girls competing, as they were either competing for the senior team on Saturday or competing/marshalling at the Crouch End Fun Run on the same day.
Encouragingly the sprinters dominated the star performances, with Nathan Cyrus’ sprints group taking most of the grade results.( The grades are set by UKA to recognise outstanding performances by age and by gender.) There are 4 Grades with Grade 1 the highest.

The grade results were as follows:

U13 Boys – Grade 4 results

Anu Temenu 1st 100m in 13.5 and 1st 200m in 28.9

Under 15 Boys – Grade 4 results

Isayah Boers 3rd 100m in 12.2 and 1st 200m in 25.6

Johnny Naylor 1st 1500m in 4.42.7. Johnny chose a particularly gutsy front running strategy, and led all the way.

Under 17 Boys – Grade 3 result

Joseph Galea – 2nd in 100m in 11.5 – After an incredible explosive start, Joseph was just pipped into 2nd place by 0.1 secs (by a Grade 2 runner)

There were some great performances in all areas and the day was finished by Isayah Boers, Johnny Naylor, Jahii Laudat and Johua Apple combining to win a thrilling Under 15B 4 x 100m relay in 52.7 – just holding off Highgate Harriers.

1st Highgate Harriers 518
2nd Victoria Park & TH 359
3rd London Heathside 350
4th Queens Park Harriers 311
5th Medway Park Phoenix 268
