Conclusion of Chingford, NWLL and Sunday XC Leagues plus Indoor and Road Race Action

The NWLL, Chingford and Sunday Leagues all reached their conclusion last weekend (or the weekend before) with Heathside runners also representing Middlesex in the Inter-Counties Race at Loughborough (the effective British XC Championships) and lots of indoor and road racing it was a very busy week.

We start with Pete Crockfords report on the Chingford League:-

Chingford League XC Relays, Wanstead Flats, Sat 11th March

A disappointing Heathside turnout at what was otherwise another popular, friendly and well run event to conclude the 22/23 season. Despite a strong breeze, the sun made it warmer than forecast, and the rain in the week meant there were quite a few quaggy bits, and enough soft ground to feel like proper cross country. Jerome and I both thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was rounded off by the presentations for the season, with me picking up the hard fought MV60 title, and the FV60 second place award on behalf of Sue Eedle. Well done Sue!

Sunday League, Royston 12.3.23

Caroline White sent in this report:- The Sunday League has been plagued with some bad luck this season, with one of its five races being cancelled altogether back in December due to bad weather conditions, and a second race in the roster – Royston - postponed in January, as Therfield Heath, a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), was waterlogged and unsuitable for xc. Luckily Royston was rescheduled for this past weekend and so the fourth and last of the 22/23 Sunday League races was finally able to take place. Royston rightly has a reputation of being a tough hilly course (elevation of 880 ft), and some people may have heaved a sigh of relief when it was cancelled back in January. But it is also a much loved, and very beautiful course and everyone enjoyed it immensely.  Captain Laura’s delicious shortbread stars and carrot cupcakes certainly helped, along with prizes of daffodils for all those who had completed all 4 races. The two captains – Laura and Mike will be sending in a more comprehensive report of the full league results when they have been sorted out, but these are the results for this last event.  Phil Hogg was first Heathsider in, of the nine that ran, and Caroline White was 1st VW65, Nick Dodd was 1st V65 and Bob Gould 1st V80
