Six Heathside Golds at Middlesex Indoors

The past week has been a big one for Heathsiders on track, field and road. Highlights include an outstanding performances at the Middlesex Indoors with 11 gold, six silver and five bronze medals. Among the stars were Rebecca McDonald who took two golds, in the 800 and 1500 meters, V35 Israel Nworgu who took gold in the 60m hurdles and silver in the long jump, Imani Quamina who won the 60m hurdles in a new club record of 9.28, Patricia Jarosz set a new club record in the shot put, Suraya Frost won gold in the U15 60m hurdles and Magdeline Paitoo who won the 300m and broke her own club record in taking the silver in the 200m.

 

Meanwhile six of our juniors represented their regions in the National Schools Championships in Nottingham, with Amy Kirk excelling. Fourteen of our athletes turned up at Victoria Park on Sunday and ran variously in the 5k, 10k and half marathon, with eight of them returning with PBs, including three out of four of the Beale family (the juniors, Fred, Eric and Charlotte).  Three of our runners picked up fast PBs in the Friday Night Under the Lights 5k, also at Victoria Park, on Friday. The quickest of the PBs was George Gurney in 15:02 but he was beaten by Thomas Archer in 14:46. And Joe McKeown ran a PB of 35:53 at Battersea Park on Wednesday night.

Five Heathsiders took part in this night-time 10k in a slightly breezy, mildly drizzly Battersea Park, with Joe McKeown picking up an official PB of 35:53. Joe had run faster in a Regent’s Park time trial but this was his 10 race PB. Next was Bart Etchevery in 36.32 and then Gavin Evans in a 23-year Personal Worst of 40:48, followed by Olivia Lukasewich in 41:38. Ed Samuel started but pulled up halfway, injured.

Middlesex Indoor Championships, Lee Valley, March 18-19 2023

Simon Baker reports that the weekend saw one of our most successful County Indoor Championships with 11 golds, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals.  Israel Nworgu showed his young charges how it’s done taking gold in the SM 60mH and a silver in the Long Jump.  None of our U17 Men progressed to the 60m final with Montana Dennis fastest with 7.62s.  In the 200m Trey Corlis won his heat before finishing 2nd in the final.  He however won gold in the 60mH with Montana 2nd and Thomas Wasserman 3rd.  Sam Brown secured the 400m title with Thomas winning the Shot Putt.  In the U15 Boys Malakai McKenzie Callum finished 3rd with Mikel Alexander only 3 100ths behind in 5th.  Malakai then took silver in the 200m and went one better in the 60mHurdles to win medals of all colour.  Alex Pountney won the 800m title.

Rebecca McDonald ran two solid races to take both the SW 800m and 1500m titles.  Martha Jolly set a new club record of 8.09s finishing 5th in the U17W 60m.  Magdeline Paitoo won silver in the 200m but rose her own club record she then won the 300m title with Ella Burridge taking the silver.  Imani Quamina won the 60m Hurdles setting a new club record of 9.28s with Patricia Jarosz stating a new club best in the Shot Put.  In the U15 Girls Suraya Frost won gold in the 60mH with Milli Bridgman-Athanasatos bronze and silver in the long and triple jump.  Kyra Smith won bronze in the 300m as did Elkie Baker just piping Malia Anderso-Watson by 1 cm.

ESAA National Cross Country Championships, Nottingham, Saturday March 19

Simon Baker report that six young Heathsiders travelled to Nottingham to represent their regions in the National Schools Championships.  Our highest finisher was Amy Kirk who was 69th in the Junior Girls race hampered by starting 4th in the pen.  Kiara Corkin finished 10s behind in 94th place and was the 6th scorer for London who took the team bronze medal.  Hattie Munday was 80th in the Intermediate Girs race with Milly Watkins 203rd,

 

Running for London in the Junior Boys race Koppany Szentes was 110th and Dylan Mills 130th.

This was the final junior race of what has again been a highly successful XC season.

Victoria Park 5k, 10k and Half Marathon, Sunday March 19

The Beale juniors all put in excellent performances at the Victoria Park 5k, each of them running PBs – U17 Fred in 17:29, U15 Eric not far behind in 17:43 and U13 Charlotte in 27:44. Meanwhile, Sue Eeedle ran a fine V65 race in 24:48.

In the 10k event Jonathan Shipley came 12th in 37:01 and Joe Goodall ran a PB of 50:51.

And in the half marathon, the first Heathside, in seventh place, was Dan Collins in 1:15:27 and there were also PBs for Filippo Minelle (1:17:01), Kwasi Agyei-Owusu (1:21:32), Maura Bellio (1:31:54) and Ella Barnes (1:32:52).
