Finsbury Park 5000s and Fyn Dualathon Championships.
A successful 5000s was held at Finsbury Park on 5th July which was: ‘a very slick and successful open meeting, with so many volunteers making it a delight.’ Other highlights of the racing week were Dualthon World Championships, Run Through Regent’s Park and the Eastbourne 10k.
Finsbury Park 5000s 5th July 2018
The major event last week was our own Finsbury Park 5000s. On top of a small army of organisers and officials doing sterling work in the sun, there were 53 Heathside finishers (listed below, along with a couple of others). Whilst it was really a little bit too hot for the early races, this didn't prove to be a problem, with 35 Heathside PBs recorded. Amongst a whole host of excellent runs, the highlight has to be Liam Garrett running the fastest time of the evening in a PB of 15:06.27 that puts him in the UK top 10 U20s rankings. Not far behind were Ivar Stefansson and Jem O'Flaherty also in PBs, Andrew Brooker and another PB for Seyfu Jamaal. Josie Hinton ran a PB of 18:29.36 for the second fastest women's time of the evening, just ahead of Celine Bradley and Olivia Desborough, both of whom went under 19 mins for the first time. And in race Louisa Pointon hit her sub-20 target by the finest of margins, 19:59.87 in a wonderfully judged run.
Also of note was Pete Crockford whose 18:59.11 in race 3 was a further 8 secs off the club V60 record he had set in the Vets League at Lee Valley on Monday. Pete has run 13 races since turning 60 on Marathon day, 12 of them records. Well done Pete, an inspiration for us all.
2018 Fyn ITU Duathlon World Championships 6-8th July 2018
Karina Kaufman and Gabi Johnson travelled to Odense , Denmark for the World Duathlon championships, having previously qualified for the British Age Group Teams at the Bedford duathlon in March.
Run Through Regent’s Park 7th July 2018
Lewis Hatful ran in the Run Through Regents Park 5K last Saturday in the sweltering heat and finished 8th despite off his PB. Sadly his complementary flapjack melted and the finishers medal burned his neck. He said it was still great fun.
