Finsbury Park 5000s, Finsbury Park, 1.7.22
Simon Baker sent in the following report from a successful night of the 5000s at Finsbury Park last Friday:
“167 runners turned out for the club’s annual Finsbury Park 5000s Open on a slightly chilly evening. However, the showers stayed away and we were treated to a stunning sunset to backlight the action on the track as runners negotiated the 12 and a half laps with the action roared on from Lane 4 by the crowd. Meeting organiser Jacob Howe seeded the 7 races which got quicker as the evening progressed. James McMurray (St Albans City) was fastest on the night with 14.26.46 ahead of Andrew Penny (Hercules Wimbledon) and our own Seyfu Jamaal 14:48.22. Kate Moulds (Vale Royal) was the first woman with a time of 17:08.81 ahead of Heathsiders Katie Brown (17:22.83) and Rebecca Piggott (17:59.05).
Thanks to Jacob for organising such a well put together meeting supported by Kim Butler or organised the Bar, Kabir in the Café, Joe McKeown commentating, Rachel Scott Halls and Helena in the Photofinish Tent and Tom Bedwell timekeeping as well as lots of other volunteers officiating or helping with other tasks it is really appreciated.”

World Athletics Masters, Finland
Adrian Day sent in the following report from Finland:
“Hello from Tampere, Finland. We’re half way through the competition with 4300 competitors from around 80 countries taking part. Adrian Essex reached final of M70 100 meters, coming 8th in a great time of 14.09s, whilst I came 33rd (out of 42) in M60 100m with a time of 14.31. In the 200m Adrian Essex reached the semis, coming 9th overall with a time of 29.85 and I came 31st (out of 46) with a time of 29.15 in my age category.”
Long course weekend, Wales vs England, Tenby
Sion Lewis had a very successful run against England, sending in the following report:
“I was selected to run for Wales in the half marathon masters international against England in Tenby. The race was part of the annual triathlon long course weekend , and the half marathon ran from Pembroke to Tenby and was dubbed the welsh half marathon.
On a beautiful but very hilly course (1000ft of elevation) hugging the Pembroke coastline I had a good run and finished 14th in 78:10. Andy Davies, recently selected for the British Marathon team at the euro championships won in 69:00. Leigh James was also selected for Wales in the 5k that ran the same day.
Unofficial results suggested England won the match, but I assume that will change once official results confirmed!”
Sue Eedle also had a good run in the 10K, coming second in her age group.

Serpent Trail Ultra 100km and 50km, Saturday 2nd July
Filipe Cardoso sent in the following report from the Serpent Trail Ultra races:
“Nuno and I went last weekend to Petersfield, Hampshire, to run the Serpent Trail in the South Downs. The weather on Saturday was perfect for running: mild temperature, dry with no wind. I attempted the 100km, my longest race to date, and hoped to complete the race during the daytime. It was an early start, leaving the race village on a bus around 5:20am and starting around 6am from Haslemere. Due to navigation errors and spending too much time at the checkpoints, I ended up getting back to Petersfield after 10pm. On the plus side, I got to experience more of the beautiful South Downs, consumed a ridiculous amount of sugar without guilt and used a head torch during a race for the first time. Nuno raced the 50km from Petworth at 8am and got back to the race village before 5pm. There were also 2 other races on the day, the 20km and 10km.” David Keir also had a successful run in the 100k, finishing 3rd overall and 1st in his age category.
