It has been a week of massive triumphs and achievements. Sarah Swinhoe and Francois Barou both made light work of the Ironman triathlon in Nice, and Sarah came 4th in her age category. There were many superb performances in the Middlesex Schools Champs and MYAL #3, the Southern Counties Vets League, the UK Athletics Champs and especially in our own Club Champs part 1 with a record turnout!

Middlesex Schools Championships, StoneX Stadium, 18.6.22

Simon reported: “Due to rugby commitments the Middlesex Schools Championships were held a week later than the rest of the country. A number of Heathsiders represented Haringey, Barnet and Enfield. (Hackney, Islington and Camden Schools compete in London Schools. While numbers competing on the day were disappointing, DoE and Exam commitments having a big impact) the championships play a big role in selection for the National Schools Championships in July. Sam Brown who started training with the club in May produced a superb run in the Junior Boys 300m to take the title and ranked 3rd nationally just behind Milton Cooper. Thomas Wassermann won the 100m Hurdles and was 4th in the High Jump. Hattie Munday finished 2nd in the Inter Girls 800m as did Suraya Frost in the Junior Girls 75mH and Elkie Baker in the Junior Girls Discus. Mia Rosen finished 3rd in the Junior Girls 1500m while Marcel Backezak and Ben Ryan also competed.

Five Heathsiders heard later that week that they had been picked to represent Middlesex at the National Championships:- Izzy Watkins (IG 800M), Milly Watkins (IG 1500m), Milton Cooper (JB 300m), Sam Brown (JB 300m) and Elkie Baker (JG Discus). “

Middlesex Young Athletics League (MYAL) 3#, Perivale, 25.6.22

Simon reported: “3 MYAL meetings and three wins although this time the margin was just 5 points from Shaftesbury with some of our teams a little depleted especially our middle distance runners and the west London Clubs being able to field larger teams. Age Group wins were recorded for the U13 Boys, U17 Men, U11 and U15 Girls, There were 14 individual event wins; Shiya Daley (U11G LJ), Kingston Bennett (U11B LJ), Finn Reid (U11B Vortex), Ivy Paitoo (U13G SP), Gabriel Edwards (U13B 200m and 80mH), Ella Burridge (U15G 200m, 300m and LJ), Sam Brown (U15B 300m), Montana Dennis (U15B 80mH) , Martha Jolly (U17W LJ), Akan Akpan (U17M SP) and Marcel Baczek (U17W JT). The windy conditions meant sprint times were wind assisted with Gabriel Edwards recording a league best in the 75mH of 12.23s cutting 0.68s of his previous best. Hattie Munday also set a new U17W 300m league best of 41.68s. Ella Burridge in winning all her 3 U15G events also recorded a speedy wind assisted 25.83s in the 200m. The only club record to fall on the day was Izzy Watkins going under 2.16 for the first time to set a new U17W Club record of 2:15.46 the fastest by any female Heathsider this year.

Two intrepid Heathsiders Sarah Swinhoe and Francois Barou headed down to Nice in the Riviera for a full Ironman Triathlon, picking one of the hottest days of the year for it. They both had superb results, Sarah coming in 723rd overall, 4th in age, and an astounding 1st in age in the run section, and Francois, not far behind

Pete Crockford was delighted to dip under 20 at Battersea Park. He wrote: “At this year's fifth attempt, and after a 20:00 and 20:01 near miss, I managed to go sub 20 again. Phew! Not as hot as recent races but
windy. Can't see me managing it as a V65 next year!”
