Goldrush at the Middlesex T&F
This week’s highlights include outstanding performances at the Middlesex Track and Field Championship, where Cian O’Donnell scored double gold and Joel Hawes retained his county discus title, and there were wins for Carlos Mingoes, James Hamblin, Brogan Wallace and Lily Woolcock. We also have the results from the BFFTA and Highgate opens, each accompanied by several wins and PBs.,
Middlesex T&F Championships
Simon Baker sent in the following report from the Middlesex T&F championship:
“The rearranged County Championships took place last weekend at what was a very cold and windy Lee Valley. Normally held in May the Championships were shifted to avoid the restrictions of lock down. Unfortunately the re-arranged date on a Bank Holiday may have contribute to the lower numbers taking part.
The Junior Championships had seen Heathside produce their best ever results and the Seniors followed the same theme with 7 gold medals, 3 silver and 4 bronze. The outstanding performance was Cian O'Donnell's double gold in 100m and 200m to go with his two bronzes at the Scottish National Championships earlier this month. Charlie Scates finished 6th in a competitive 400m race. Carlos Mingoes recovered from slipping and injuring himself in the 100m to win the Long Jump. Joel Hawes retained his County Discus title with a season's best and James Hamblin secured the Hammer competition.
The senior women saw wins for Brogan Wallace in the 800m and Lily Woolcock in the 1500m with Jennifer Wing just out of the medals in 4th. Mary Kehoe recorded a new PB in the shot to take 3rd and also came third in the Hammer.
Thomas Archer who is returning from injury ran in a tactical 1500m race finishing with a silver medal. In the U20 women Taysia Thorbourne took 0.1s off her PB to finish 4th in the U20W 100m. In the U17 Men's 400m Nana Oduro-Nyaning was unfortunately disqualified for running out of his lane but this shouldn't distract from a great first season for Nana. In the 1500m Roni and Kizilkaya and Fred Beale finished strongly to take 2nd and 3rd. Bedo Draskoczy also ran strongly in another tactical race to take silver in the 3,000m.
Well done to all who took part, the Championships return in May next year which will also be the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Middlesex Athletics Association with a number of special events planned to mark the occasion.”
