Rebecca Bunting wins the Brentwood half marathon with a new PB

Brentwood Half marathon, 20th March

Rebecca Bunting had a successful run in Brentwood last Sunday, reporting “I ran in the Brentwood Half yesterday and was delighted with a two minute PB.”

Hampton Court Half Marathon, Sunday 20th March

Four Heathsiders ventured south last Sunday to Henry VIII’s former palace for the Hampton Court half marathon.  Philip Hogg, who may have been using the half marathon as a test run for his forthcoming marathon in Manchester, sent in the following report as a possible heads-up:

Mark, Henry and Philip in Hampton Court

“Four Heathsiders ran in the Hampton Court half marathon on Sunday. Phil and Mark met a very grumpy Henry viii, before the start. Not sure why he was so grumpy as being a Henry viii lookalikey didn't seem the hardest job in the world on a sunny Sunday morning. I'm going to put my head on the block and say it was a typical "run though" organised race, slightly odd course of somewhat indeterminate length (we say at least 150m too long, but better too long than too short) but otherwise well organised and fun. Being a "run through" race, there were some annoyingly fit non club runner types notching up great times, but we put it down to magic shoes. No need to lose our heads over it.”

Results

120    Phil Hogg               1.28.14          4th V50

Victoria Park Open 5, Saturday March 19

Several Heathsiders travelled east to Victoria park last Saturday and were rewarded with PBs and new club records. Gavin Evans sent in the following report:

Annabel Arnold came second in her maiden five miler at a windy Victoria Park on Saturday, in a time of 29:39, against a high quality field that featured 10 Heathsiders. The blustery conditions probably slowed her down by at least 10 seconds, which suggests she is due for a sub-37 10k soon.

The first Heathsider was Seyfu Jamaal whose 24:55 put him in fourth place but he was not happy with his performance. ‘I had a sore stomach,’ he said, ‘and I slowed down from about the 5k mark.’

Three places behind Seyfu was Tom Aldred, a former winner of this event, who finished in 25:32, making him the first V40 veteran and taking the club age group record by 51 seconds.

The third Heathsider was Jamie Morris in 28:46 for his first-ever five miler. He was followed by Chris Vincent in 30:40, Gavin Evans in 31:02 (first V60 and club age group record) and Simon Nichols in 31:29, making him the second V50.

The second woman was Jessica Vinluan in a PB time of 34:59, making her the third V40. Behind her was Eilidh Wagstaff in 35:34. Jonathan Litchfield, who is still not recovered from injury, had to ease off after a few miles and finished in 36:01.
