Middle Distance Bonanza
While hopefully lots of you are enjoying the last embers of summer (if not soggy ones) a host of Heathsiders have been revelling in a feast of middle distance running at Harrow, Wimbledon, Dagenham and our very own Finsbury Park with many managing two races in one week. A welcome return to the blue red and gold for Liam Garrett who has yet to return to Yale University who recorded the 7th fastest U20 3,000m time in the UK this year, Seyfu too produced a fast time in a high quality field in Wimbledon. Lily Woolcock, Jenifer Wing and Tony Killilea continued their impressive series of races with Lily and Jenifer both registering SBs . Amara Odeogberin and Larissa Wilson battled out a fine race as part of Zac’s Finsbury Park Series. Larissa had also competed at the Bromley Open on Saturday in the 300m which also saw Dina Asher Smith run a 17.70s 150m in her invitational event.
There was even 10km racing with the benefit of chip timing in St Albans with George Gurney a superb 7th with Valentin and Filipe both registering top 30 V40 finishes.
Hannah Yip set herself an alternative challenge making a Swimming debut as a substitute for the cancelled London Aquathlon at the Olympic Park. She swam the Virtual Henley Marathon (14k) over three weeks completing between 2,135m and 2,440m each time between 3 and 20th August at the Parliament Hill Lido. Impressive swimming. If anyone is interested in Triathlon or other multi-sporting events Filipe Cardoso co-ordinates the Club’s activities (We are members of the British Triathlon Association).
Elsewhere there is some promising Cross Country news with organisers looking to trial new Covid-19 safe formats in October. This unfortunately has not been soon enough to save the NWLL which cancelled the first 2 meetings but the organisers still hope to run three meetings in the new year.
Anyone looking for track action can still find it at Zac’s last meeting on 7th September at Finsbury Park. Which will also feature races for the Juniors to enter into the Middlesex AA Junior Races. There may also be room for more at the Club Handicap Race at a secret venue (AP) on 12th.
Club Chairman Jerry Odlin also launched the Club’s AGM in a virtual format this year.
