Middlesex champs, London 10,000, Westminster Mile and Marin 10k

The main event of the weekend was the Middlesex County champs at Lee Valley, which took place over two days. There was plenty to celebrate for Heathsiders with some great PBs and SBs. (See the full results below.)  There were undoubtedly a few of you at the Edinburgh marathon, but full results are not available yet so we will write that up next week.

The standout result of the meet looks to have been Lily's win in the U17 300m, flying round the track (three quarters of it, at any rate) in 41.48 seconds. Liam also thought he'd won the U13 800 in 2:27.97 (knocking four seconds out of the previous championship best) but he was unfortunately disqualified for a lane infraction. He went on to score some very creditable results in other events, coming fourth in the 200 and second in the long jump.

On the road, there was the small matter of the Bupa London 10,000, in which Alex "Just pleased to get around" Galloway was our first Heathsider home of eight.

"For the first time in years I managed to break the 45 mins mark. Goes to show that running with the Club and getting good coaching from Barbara and Alison pays off," announced Rob Bowler from inside the hypoxic tent at Heathside's secret training laboratory.

"Started just behind Mo Farah but finished a LONG way behind him," added Paul J, who clearly ought to choose someone a bit more realistic to strike up a heated rivalry with.

There was also the Westminster Mile, which Sebouh, Gabi and Di took part in.  Meanwhile, Gyorgy Csatlos relieved event announcers by not making the podium at the Windsor Half Marathon but still ran an excellent sub-90, which was good enough for 13th place.

There were plenty of club members at parkrun this week, with a good result for Elspeth (first lady at Hampstead Heath) and outstanding times for Stuart Meiklejohn, Alex Weatherill and Rich Macauley who was this close to first place at Grovelands.  Fastest female Heathside parkrunner was new member Rebecca Bunting who finished Richmond parkrun in 20min20sec so we look forward to welcoming her to the cross country team in due course!

Further afield, Fiona rocked California like an earthquake in the Marin Memorial Day 10k, running 43 minutes and change. Meanwhile, in the Coventry Sprint Tri, I disgraced the name of the club in the swim leg, coming 180th out of about 200. Honour was partially restored with second in the run leg (behind a bloke who had 'GBR' printed on his onesy and his own website about being a mega triathlete) and 54th overall. As the tri took place at my old school, I was hoping the run leg would go though the CDT studio, which would definitely have given me an edge on the competition.

Rubber duck corner
Congratulations to Gabi for completing the 1500m Eton Dorney open water swim (1500 if you swim in a straight line, which apparently she can't) and Jo for the 750m. Apologies to both for missing you out in the first version of the report. Apparently, it wasn't all that warm - might want to look for a heated lake next time, ladies.
