MYAL, Tromso Midnight sun Half, Dashing Deer 5k, European Age Group Triathlon

Flaming June lived up to its reputation this past weekend, with soaring temperatures and high humidity. Liz Drake took drastic measures and headed for Norway to escape the heat, and ran the Tromso Midnight Sun half marathon, in the cool of the night, others hadn’t planned quite as carefully.... The Middlesex Youth Athletes League took place on Sunday at Parliament Hill (unfortunately results are still to appear, so nothing to report here), and elsewhere more half marathons, triathlons, 10Ks and 5ks took place with some great results.

Tromso Midnight  Sun Half Marathon 17.06.17
Liz Drake headed for cooler conditions in Norway – this is her report from Oslo: “I ran the midnight sun half marathon in the Arctic City of Tromso, Norway, finishing 3rd female in my age category (9th female overall) in a PB time of 1.34.07.  The scenery along the route was beautiful and the air crisp and clean. If you've never run a race in the middle of the night with the sun shining then I'd definitely recommend it :). “

Badener Stadtlauf, half marathon, Vienna, 18.06.17

Henry Hamilton ran a half marathon in Vienna - here's his report:"I can honestly say this was the first race I've ever run in which I was the sole British representative in a field of 192. Working in Vienna for a couple of weeks I thought what better way to spend my day off than run a half marathon in a small town some 40km south west of the capital city. I was greeted with excitement and joy from locals amazed that someone with a vest saying 'London' was lining up to take part in their small but brilliantly organised annual half marathon consisting of 4 laps of the town. With the temperature in the high-20's it was always going to be a challenging race but I was happy to be presented my medal and a free beer having finished in 32nd place."

Dashing Deer 5k 19.06.17
A hearty group braved the tropical temperatures on monday night to take part in the Dashing Deer 5k at Battersea Park, and were led home by Daniel Johns in an incredible time given the heat of 17.12.

Osterley Park 10K,17.06.17
Simon Hazel ran the Osterley Park 10k  at the weekend. This is his report: “on Saturday morning I battled the sun and heat and lack of a breeze to run the Osterley Park 10k. A lovely small scale race set in the National Trust estate in West London. I gave up chasing the sub-40 pacers by 2k as it was just too hot and settled into a slower more sensible pace crossing the finish in 43:33 for 29th place overall, 26th male and 12th in Age Group. I'll be giving the winter edition a go later in the year as well as the parkrun at some point."

European Age Group Triathlon standard distance champs in Kitzbühel, Austria, 17.06.17
Sandra Buckton qualified last year for this year's European Age Group Triathlon standard distance champs in Kitzbühel, Austria,. She had a fantastic race given injury and health issues along the way. This is her report: “training didn't go to plan with various injury and health problems. So the only option was just to enjoy the atmosphere of my first (and probably last) opportunity to represent GB.

On what turned out to be perfect racing conditions, several degrees cooler than the scorchers of previous days and without the threatened rain which would have made the bike descents terrifying, the course was still tough. A single lap swim in a beautiful alpine lake was followed by three laps of a half-flat, half-hilly bike course and an undulating run.

Very happy to finish just outside the top half in my age group and with fantastic memories of an amazing weekend."
