Nineteen Heathsiders travelled to Watford to run 6 miles in the second race of the Sunday league cross-country series, consisting of steep hills, heavy rain and of course, lots of mud.  Harry Owrid (42:50) led the way, followed by Mark George (45:58).  Katie Belkin (50:28) finished first among Heathside women.  In the words of our chairman, there then followed “an epic battle between Dave and Mike again, with Caroline leaving them both in the dust (or mud) 😊”.  Caroline finished first in the V65 category and Kim deserves a special mention for having also raced in the North London cross-country championships the day before.  Thanks are due to the team captains, Laura Boothman and Michael Hickey for leading the way and to Laura for her cakes. The next race is on Sunday in Trent Park.

ATW Duathlon championship, Grafham, 29th October 2023

Congratulations are due to Karina Kaufmann, who had a break from the Sunday league cross-country to take part in the British duathlon championship in Grafham, finishing first in the V40 category and becoming British champion.  Her times are all the more impressive as she comments: “…the course was part cross-country…they had to lay straw over the muddy sections halfway through the race”.
