SAL Meeting 3
Southern Athletics League, North East London Group Fixture 3, Finsbury Park, 14/8/21
Simon Baker sends the report :
“The Club hosted this meeting at a sunny Finsbury Park with a thudding soundtrack from a nearby music festival and Basketball competition, but it's great to see so many people enjoying the Park. For the third time this summer London Heathside finished top of the teams in their North East London Group. On the track a host of PB's were set especially by our sprinters with it great to see so many U20's competing for the Club.
A reminder that scoring this year is on a decathalon basis with the time or distance gaining the team points rather than competing against the other clubs on the day. The team accumulated 270.0 pts which was slightly less than the 280.9 pts of the first match but higher than the 250 pts scored in the 2nd fixture and so will not lift the Club up the league from our current 42nd position.
Highest scorers for the Men were James Hamblin's 885 pts in the Hammer and Leon Seale 852 pts in the 200m. The highest point scorer in the Women's team was Beth Hawling in the 5000m with 836 pts and Brogan Wallace 695 pts in the 800m. James and Beth were awarded SAL Man and Woman Athletes of the Match..
The next and last match is at Lee Valley on 11th September and the last chance for the Club to improve on their final League position.
Many thanks go to the large number of volunteers who ensured the meeting ran smoothly, marshalled by Chris Hartley and Jonathan Litchfield as meeting manager and field referee , and also to the team captains Mark Jefford and Jennifer Wing for organising the teams
Some of the team are captured in the photo
