South Eastern Counties Schools Championships, Basingstoke, 17.6.23

Simon Baker sent in the following report:

This meeting with Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Middlesex competing against each other is a warm up for London Schools offering a last chance to gain a qualifying standard before team selection closes as well as a chance to compete against other young athletes heading to Birmingham. Middlesex athletes were hampered by road closures but 6 young athletes took part.  Thomas Wassermann’s efforts to secure qualifying time were hampered by the officials placing the last flight of hurdles in the wrong place. Issy and Milie Watkins secured 3rd and 4th place in the IG 1500m with Caitlin Roberts gaining great experience in the JG 1500m.  Elkie Baker produced another performance over 32m despite only arriving 20 minutes before her competion and having completed a DoE expe’Ition the day before.

Pete Crockford sent in the following report from Tooting Bec:

Two Heathsiders, both in second of four races, on a warm but not hot eve with a bit of a breeze.

Paul was 2nd and very happy with his time and a positive experience after recently having to drop out of Stockholm Marathon. I was very pleased, not only to set another club V65 record, but also to run slightly quicker than my 5k SB.
