Webster wins Pride 10k, Burnham prize for men's team

Road races take centrestage in this week’s report due to a fine first place finish for Katy Webster in the Pride 10k and the team prize for our men in the Burnham Beeches Half Marathon, while talented youngster Darnell Plummer competed in the Southern Counties championships. 

Remarkably, this is the first time in a while that the weekly race report features nothing but biped exploits, although our multi-sporters will be back in action soon enough. This weekend was all about good ol' road races, with several Heathsiders tackling the multi-lap course in Victoria Park, Katy Webster particularly swiftly so. Talented young sprinter Darnell Plummer took part in the two-day Southern Counties U15/U17 Championships, making it through to the 200m final after a third place finish in his heat, and also running in what appears to have been a straight 100m final. And Gavin reports on the Burnham Beeches Half Marathon, with the rest of the results following: 

"It was a warm and muggy morning and most of us reported in as being a breakfast or two below par (variously returning from injuries and/or from holidays), but we still walked away with the men's team prize, which was nice, because this is a race bearing gifts and money. Anthony Hall was far and away our best runner, completing this hilly half in 1:18.45 to take fourth place (365 finishers). Julian Ferraro , having just returned from holiday, was second  and 18th overall in 1:24:10 (the first V45) and Gavin Evans was third and 19th overall (first V50). Completing the men's team was Chris Hartley who was 21st overall in 1:15.05. Ash Abrha, jaded from a heavy, seven day training week and no breakfast, was next in - 1:25.45 (23rd and second V50), followed by Dominic Jackson and Trevor Wilson. Our first woman was Cathy Jeremiah in 1:32:02 (9th woman)."
