A sunny Easter weekend, with PBs and new club records in Harrow, Lea Valley and Boston

In this week’s report, we have news of super-speedy runs and a new club age category record at the Boston marathon, new track record at Harrow and Lee Valley, as well as a new course record at Ally Pally parkrun

 

LICC Meeting 1#, Lee Valley 16.4.22

Simon sent in the following report from Lee Valley:

Milton Cooper at his Blocks alongside Dina Asher-Smith

The track and field season is starting to crank up with the LICC meeting at Lee Valley.  Organised by Shaftesbury these meetings cover a full schedule of events with over 400 competitors taking part,  It was a particularly successful day for our young athletes with 4 new club records set and two National Schools Qualifying standards already achieved.  Trey Corlis (U17M) set  a new 100m Hurdles record and NS Schools qualifying performance and is ranked No2 Nationally, while Imani Quamina (U17W) set a new 80mH record.  Our U15 Girls have set 22 new club records over the last 18 months with Ella Burridge setting new records in the 200m and 300m.  M|ilton Cooper improved his outdoor 300m record by almost 1s and also now has a NS qualifying standard.  He had the pleasure of racing alongside Dina Asher-Smith who recorded the 5th fastest 300m All Time by a UK woman. Milton is currently ranked 4th U15B at 300m and 8th fastest over 200m,

Harrow Sprint Open, Bannister Stadium, 14.4.22

 

Simon  Baker sent in the following report from Harrow “A band of Heathsiders braved the pre Easter Holiday traffic to compete at Harrow AC's Sprint Open on Thursday night and set some early season markers.  The highlight was Elkie Baker breaking the Club's 12 year old U15 Girls Discus record throwing 24.12m which was also the 8th furthest distance in the UK this year by an U15 Girl.  Milli Bridgeman-Athanasatos also set a new U15G Triple Jump Record”

Boston marathon, 18.04.22

Jamie Morris and 13 other Heathsiders had successful and speedy runs at a sunny Boston marathon, reporting: “12 Heathsiders, lots of hills and headwind, 5 PBs, a club age-group record, a medical tent time-out, a champagne shower and loads of surprise sunburn. And lots of "Wicked’ Fahst" Boston running.”  Tatyana Potiyenko was particularly happy mentioning: “Nice sunny day for Boston Marathon 2022 with loud cheers all long the course which didn't disappoint.   Finish time 3:39:14 - not my PB but pleased with the result 5 months post baby “.

James Hamblin looks to have had a good winter training improving his senior club record by 77cm at Woodford, he now has his sights on the 60m barrier as he seeks to set a new PB.

Parkruns

Many Heathsiders made the most of  a sunnry Easter Saturday to run in parkruns.  Congratulations for first place finishes go to Ciara Kenedy (Finsbury Park, 21:18), Rebecca Piggott (Grovelands, 18:59), Tom Aldred (Preston (Brighton), 16:16), William Griffiths (Blickling, 17: 35), Brogan Wallace (Hafan Pwllhel, 23:18), Old Showfield (Tom Hollis, 16:40).  A special mention goes to Helen Mayer who set a new age category (VW70:74) record at Ally Pally (24:53) and reached 89.48% in her age grading.  Full results can be found here.
