Races from 100m to 100 miles - V50 British record for 100 miles, new club record for hammer
There was a huge variation in competition this week from 100m to 100 miles and there are many standout achievements, and PBs. Special congratulations go to Michael Stocks who achieved the V50 British record for 100 miles and James Hamblin who got a new club record for the hammer.
Highgate Spring Open, Parliament Hill, 20.4.22
Simon Baker reported: “There was a good turnout of Heathsiders at a sunny but chilly Parliament Hill on Wednesday for Highgate Harriers Spring Open Meeting. Frustratingly for the sprinters there was a stiff breeze affecting the chances of PBs. Again there was a great cross section with masters Athletes Adrian Essex and Adrian Day the both of whom set a new 300m PB. Etienne Munday (U20M) jumping 175m despite the difficult conditions while Gregory Berrisford Sweet (U17M) improved his 1500m PB by 6s and Elkie Baker increased her U15G Discus club record by 38cm”.

Two Oceans Half Marathon, Cape Town, Saturday April 16 2022
A bit of a late result and report from Gavin from last week: “I ran this mountainous half to join a close friend who had entered. It was 13 days after I did the Manchester Marathon so my legs were still tired, and I felt it up the long hills on this beautiful but net-uphill run, which weaves through the foothills of Devil’s Peak and Table Mountain, starting on the Main Road and ending a few hundred meters higher, at the University of Cape Town.
Something like 15,000 people took part in the half, which a day later was followed by the full 53-km ultra.
The half was warm and a bit windy and I found after my first mile, which I ran in 6.35, that my legs were not up for the climbs though they did better downhill.
I ended up with a time of 1:39:01, 15 minutes slower than my last half but that one was flat and took place before the marathon.”

Centurion Track 100, Bedford, 23 Apr 22
Michael Stocks ran in the Centurion Track 100 on Saturday. He ran 100 miles on the track in 13.41.19 - a new V50 BRITISH RECORD for the distance (and a Heathside club record). He also lowered his own club 100 mile record by over 35 minutes. To put this in perspective – this is over 400 laps of the track! A massive achievement.

Upper Youth Development League, South Division 2B, Meeting 1 Sutcliffe Park, Eltham, 24.4.22
Simon Baker reported: “A group of young Heathsiders travelled to Eltham in South London to take part in the YDL in a combined team with Highgate Harriers and VPH&TH. This is the first time the Club have competed in this league and the aim is to offer our growing ranks of U17 and U20 athletes a chance to compete against their peers. The format is identical to the Southern Athletic League with a wider range of events than the MYAL. Unfortunately our league is entirely made up of teams south of the Thames and trips to Erith, Lewis and Tooting Bec await. For many this was the first meeting of the year and they produced some great results with 3 event wins (Trey Corlis U17 100mH, 400mH and Hattie Munday U17 800m) and three 2nd places (Trey Corlis U17 100m, Imani Quamina U17 80mH and Millie Watkins U17 1500m). Trey's 100m Hurdles time was a new U17 club record and the 2nd fastest in the UK this year he also improved his 100m PB. Hattie Munday improved her 800m by over 6s after an injury plagued 2021 in doing so Hattie broke the 9 year old Club record set by Lily Beckford in 2013. Imani Quamina also improved her Club U17 80m Hurdles Record.
Thanks especially to coach Israel who accompanied the athletes and managed them on the day. We hope everyone enjoyed the experience, with the next fixture hosted by Bexley AC at the Erith Athletics Stadium on Sunday 29th May.”
