Cyclopark marathon, Regents Park 10k, Hillingdon tri ...

There were plenty of Heathsiders out racing this Jubilee weekend, taking in events such as the latest Regents Park 10k, the Plymouth marathon, the Welsh Champs, the Hillingdon triathlon, and a rather interesting 17 laps of a cyclopark in Kent that provided Phillip Hogg with a marathon PB.

I’m writing this while also watching the ridiculously nerve-wracking Djokovic-Tsonga French Open quarterfinals (c’mon Djokovic!) but I can hardly take it anymore so this is a somewhat calming distraction (c’mon Djokovic!) …

Highlights for this report include Phil’s 3:12 marathon PB after 17 mentally challenging laps of a new cyclopark somewhere in Kent that Ursula also tackled as a training run (3rd marathon in less than two months?). You may see in the photo the armbands that competitors were given to discard one at a time after completion of a lap to help them keep track. It’s the kind of system I’d be happy to have if I, like Leigh this weekend at the Welsh Champs, were racing 10,000m on the track … 

Elsewhere four of our gang braved the rain and cold to do a local triathlon in Hillingdon – Sarah’s first triathlon in … (yes! Fourth set to Djokovic!) donkey’s years – involving a 600m swim, 6km run and 25km cycle. I also want to point out Johnny’s latest PB in the 1500m – he’s been whittling away at his time over several races this season and last Wednesday brought it down to 4:31.85 in Watford – with Conor also running a PB at the same open meet.
