From Brighton to Milan, marathon madness is here

Spring marathon madness has arrived! In the run-up to London next weekend Heathside was represented in the Brighton, Milan, Paris and Rotterdam marathons. Dan Madams ran a perfectly timed race in Rotterdam, I hear, to post the fastest time of the weekend for our lot, while Sandra was unlucky enough to land a faulty chip in Paris, but will hopefully be consoled by a great self-timed run of 3:40:57.

In Milan David weirdly seems to have achieved a better gun time than chip time, posting what seems to be a big PB and Ken also appearing to have run a new best. Further to the north in Rotterdam on a cold and very windy day Dan and Gavin ran together until 30k in what Gavin described as an eight-man peloton, with Dan at this stage breaking away to leave Gavin behind, albeit only 22sec off his PB in the end.

Others were not so lucky, with Sandra racing in Paris only to find out her chip was faulty - very frustrating, I imagine. Word has it she ran 3h40, in line with Chris. Closer to home Sarah, Fran and Claire raced in cold sunny conditions in Brighton, with a group of Heathsiders tackling the Thames Towpath 10 and the Newham 10k also among this weekend’s road races. We also have track & field results from early season local events, with Jacob, Daumantas, Mo and Xelia testing their speed/jumping at the Highgate and Lee Valley opens.. At the Lee Valley Open Xelia was meant to run the 200m but had to withdraw because of a painful tendon in her leg, although that came after a U17 club record in the long jump.
